Hello, so following up my Heavy Star Wars Episode III mix, I figured I better finish what I started! So I went back to Episode I, and the main goal was to try to keep the same tone of editing and music, and most importantly, keeping the intro consistent.

But what makes my fanmix "Heavy" is that I replaced the original sound track to Rock Music when there are fight scenes or battles, creating various music video type of segments, along with the editing.

I also color corrected the movie to get rid of the warm feel and more contrast, and the colors pop out a lot more! See for yourself and do a comparison!

The challenge was that this was my least favorite of the prequels, and I managed to chop down the movie to 1:20 minutes from beginning to end credits. The Pod Race and the last fight scenes were probably the most enjoyable to edit, with Anakin's story and build up being stressful in that I wasn't sure if this fan edit was going to work at all! By the time I was half way through I got my second wind!

I am not an audio specialist, but I have educated myself in learning how to use the mixer in Adobe Premiere a lot better, and I have done my best to not make any jarring or noticeable edits. Now to editing Episode II !!!

I just watched this fanedit, and I have to say it was fun and awesome. I really enjoyed the "heavy metal" film feel of this title. While I , in all honestly found the original film to be drawn out and boring, I found this is almost a new film entirely upon watching it. Lots of bits and pieces that did nothing but drag it down have been removed, the color alterations and soundtrack kick up the pacing and overall feel. I only had one small issue with it and that was that the inserted C-3PO sequence did feel out of place and broke the pacing mid film. Beyond that I had a great time watching this film and it is a piece of edit artistry I will have to show my friends this movie night..

My mini review:

Pros:
It's amazing. I love it. Gives a very nice grindhouse / Heavy Metal  feel (i.e the pulp fantasy franchise) and turns the movie into a completely new experience. The changed dialog subtitles are hilarious and definitely add to this as well.

Cons:
To reach perfection in my mind this edit should have a grindhouse filter like the Tarantino/Rodriguez movies. I also found a few of the music cues to start/end a little bit abruptly. I also felt that the on-screen title cards felt a little "tacked on" since they only appeared for the first 20-30 minutes. It was annoying that the movie intro sequence started after 24 minutes, but that sequence was incredible!

One of the best fanedits I've seen. 8/10.

regarding the intro sequence, i think that's the only Heavy Star Wars movie where you actually see it! Episode IV has another crazy sequence like that too, trying to have some fun and throw in some easter eggs at you!

thank you for your review! I do believe I am getting better, especially now that I am editing Episode VI, I kind of know what I am doing! The prequel trilogy definitely has a more playful feel than the original trilogy.

I did experiment with a grind house type filter but felt like it took away too much from what I wanted to do...but I did experiment and put up a version of Episode IV with a cartoon look! Its at www.HeavyStarWars.com

Thanks again for watching, and please share with your friends!

Review posted on IFDb.

Between all the TPM edits I've watched and doing my own TPM edit, I've really been through the ringer when it comes to this movie.  So it takes something new to get me to watch another one.  Thankfully I gave this a chance, and I really had a good time watching it.

First off, the movie is cut down to a breezy 80 minutes and I didn't notice any glaring flaws in the narrative.  Cutting out the entire opening was a method I've never seen before and it worked quite well.  There were some other places I wished for some trims (a few annoying bits of Jar Jar or Ani that could have easily been lost) but in general this is a reasonably edited down version of the movie.

The music choices are all well done.  Some songs were not to my specific taste but that's certainly not the fault of the editor, as song preferences are highly personal.  I certainly am glad this was more of a rock edit than the heavy metal edit the title promises.  The music fit well and came in and left at all the right places.  I also appreciated the care that was taken to reduce song volume when people were talking and bring it back up when the talking was over.

My second favorite use of music was Psycho Killer, which featured some great editing from start to finish.  But my favorite was whatever the song is that is used for the introduction of C3PO.  I won't spoil it here but that sequence kind of blew my mind (though it ran on a bit too long).  I suspect that's a one-and-done gag but it would be amazing if C3PO could be that character the whole way through the Heavy Saga.

There were some instances of original score bleeding through.  This is understandable given how difficult Star Wars audio is to work with, and the overall experience was enjoyable enough to look past it.  Fixing this would have probably required full rebuilding of sound effects, which can be done but is difficult and tedious.  If the editor had spent the time to do so, it would have just about made this edit perfect, but I'm certainly not one to complain.  Overall the audio editing is definitely done well.

There were a few fun visual gags as well.  I particularly enjoyed the many quick cuts to closer views of characters for dramatic effect.  I do wish the character labels were done more often, I recall only the two Jedi and the two droids, I would have liked to see those for the other prominent characters as well.

Excellent job!  Looking forward to watching the rest of the series.
