I am going to make my first fan edit and I am going to make an Extended version of "Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny" it will be a little over 2 hours long. I was wondering what tools I should use to edit my movie, insert clips, and all that stuff? Also what is the best program to make DVD Menus?

Erm... This has already been done. I mean, totally do it if you want to learn the tools, but there has already been an edit like this.

I know about that edit, but mine is going to have 35-45 minutes of deleted footage unlike the 14 minutes of deleted footage in the other version.

Now now RB, no need to shit on his parade ;)

I wasn't trying to! I usually come off a bit harsher in my posts that I think I mean to.

I haven't seen the other edit, so I didn't know how much extra you could put back in. I didn't know there was 35mins worth of deleted scenes to be had at all!

I like em, if you watch some of them it just adds more character and humor to the movie. So i was like time to put back that was never meant to be cut!

But really can someone help me out and tell me what to use to edit video in and stuff also what program makes a nice DVD Menu?

If you're just starting out, it's best to use the software that your PC came with. Use this http://www.dvdshrink.org/ to rip the dvd to your hard drive. It will help you create a movie file faster and removes copy protection. It's free, too. Use Windows Movie Maker to edit. You can edit with mpeg, wmv or avi files. Use this to convert the dvd files to mpeg http://www.svcd2dvd.com/downloads.aspx#VOB2MPG. Use this http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net/ to create the dvd. I've never used it, but I hear it's a decent program; It's free. If you don't mind spending the money and creating the greatest dvd the world has ever seen, get the following.

*cue "Ode to Joy"

Or do what I did. Use trial software. Start visiting videohelp.com

windows movie maker is extremely limited. get some trials of software and learn what can make a good looking edit and DVD and what you are comfortable with.

For myself, I prefer Sony Vegas as my editor and Ulead DVD Workshop (discontinued) to author my discs.

womble and DVD lab for me.

after rereading UltimateSquash's extended edition thread im sorta siding with RB.

US acquired the best buy 2nd disc with ALL the extra deleted scenes on it. and from reading the thread it looks like he added in everything that was relevent/funny already. plus lets not forget that he won the fanedit contest a few months back with it.

by all means go for it bob and create your edit but i think US has already made pretty much the definitive cut.

You can decide who you will side with when I finish my version. Cause it's one Ballstomper Edition!

As is the way of the internet, unfortunately.

I have a quick question, when I use Avi's with "Mpeg Video Wizard" I get popping sounds. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm using Avi's instead of Mpeg's . So right now I'm re-ripping my DVD files to Mpeg's. If the popping continues can somebody let me know whats going on?
