Bad Movies Made Less Bad Presents:

Another movie I wanted to love.

But it wasn't nearly as good as Unbreakable, and the ending left a bad taste in my mouth. So lets see what we can do:

Goals:
  • Remove as much “Comic Book” exposition as possible
  • Reduce Dr. Staple’s screentime early on to better hide her motives until Kevin is shot (to make her character seem synonymous with a rational public view of these people)
  • Remove Dr. Staple trying to work with Casey to save Kevin (by the time the Black Clover Society arrives, their goal is discrete elimination)
  • Keep the question about the validity of the superhero claims in question as long as possible until Mr. Glass's actions reveal the truth - The Beast climbing walls and David breaking down the steel door.
  • Changed the ending so Mr. Glass is the cause of the worldwide video release.

Looking for input if you have any!

Cut List:
  • Removed initial Overseer encounter
  • Trimmed Dunn Security scene and removed “Salt Bae” reference
  • Removed David alone at home scene
  • Removed Dunn Security store scene with M. Night
  • Removed Kevin in skates and hostages scene
  • Removed Kevin in the sewers
  • Removed shot of Dr. Staple in her office watching Kevin being taken into hospital
  • Trimmed Dr. Staple discussing David’s room with him and reordered shots in her introductions to David and Kevin
  • Removed Dr. Staple’s line “I came here for you both”
  • Removed scene of Dr. Staple in her office reviewing files on Mr. Glass
  • Removed shots of Casey in the lunchroom
  • Remove shot of Joseph’s picture at Casey’s school
  • Shortened administrator’s discussion with Casey about Kevin’s capture
  • Trimmed Casey’s meeting with Dr. Staple
  • Removed Casey’s meeting with Kevin
  • Trimmed Dr. Staple’s camera explanation.
  • Removed Joseph at the YCMA watching body builders
  • Remove Dr. Staple needing to read a note to remember to call out Kevin’s full name
  • Remove David’s childhood drowning flashback
  • Changed “this and an anchoring incident and you…” to “this and an anchor and you…” to instead refer to Joseph and not the childhood drowning incident.
  • Trimmed Comic Book Store employee scene
  • Removed “first name mister. last name glass”
  • Trimmed office scene with Dr. Staple, Casey, Joseph and Mrs. Glass
  • Removed Dr. Staple asking Casey to help
  • Trimmed water tank fight to remove David “realizing” the walls are cracking
  • Trimmed Kevin’s death scene to remove the part about needing to clean the pants
  • Trimmed David being dragged to the puddle
  • Trimmed Dr. Staple’s discussion with David while being drowned
  • Trimmed Dr. Staple’s discussion to remove the reference to being a 10,000 year organization and that “its not fair”
  • Removed Dr. Staple watching Tower news on computer after discussion with hospital staff
  • Trimmed Dr. Staple’s discussion with the Black Clover Society to remove questions from the group, the part about moving on to a new city, the part about a machine, and the part about “not being executioners” (they executed David)
  • Trimmed Dr. Staple browsing the comics store with luggage
  • Trimmed Dr. Staple realizing Mr. Glass’s plan with the security footage
  • Moved shots of Mr. Glass in the Security camera control room to when Dr. Staple is realizing his plan
  • Added an alarm sound when Dr. Staple checks footage that is meant to signify a trigger for the footage release at the hospital.
  • Reordered final shots to seem like Glass releases the videos to the world at the same time the videos are sent to Casey, Joseph and Mrs. Glass
  • Selected only one part of Mr. Glass’s monologue, “I believe that if everyone sees what a few people become when they wholly embrace their gifts, others will awaken” and used it as a vocal trigger whenever the mass-released footage was started.
  • Removed coffee on bench shots and discussion

Oh my god, that is a great ending. That works perfectly. If the rest of the edit works this well, I can see this becoming my go-to version of Glass. Would love to see the entire film!

Again, fantastic work. This is the definition of trimmed fat. I get what M. Night was going for with the fightporn guys, some statement on the glorification of violence here in America I'm sure, but it's just sooo jarring and out of place.

The pacing here is really good, and I like how you shift and rearrange dialog to fit the new visual flow, it's all incredibly seamless (and it's what I strive to achieve in my edits, so needless to say you've been a bit of inspiration for me here).

The only thing I would suggest, and this is quite literally just a nitpick, is moving Joseph's "Ok" just a little bit sooner, while keeping his "fine" where it is. As it stands I feel like the silence lasts a little too long, almost a whole 2 seconds. It doesn't feel like a natural flow of conversation. Moving "ok" up by a second or half a second, just about to where the shot changes to the monitor should help.

I'm also somewhat sad to see you remove Dunn at home, but I understand the decision. Overall, this is top notch.

Thanks for the feedback TBM!! I completely agree about the fightporn guys, so jarring!

I ended up removing the "fine" and "ok" all together for better flow, much better IMO! Father and son just enjoy the humor and move on.

Will be releasing next month!

I have to agree, removing it all together was the best option. This flows so much better, I was entirely immersed, to the point that I was actually upset that the clip is only 4 minutes long haha

I never understood the hate for this movie as I enjoyed it thoroughly, but def. excited to see it trimmed and the purpose more defined.
