Main Project Intentions & Info:
This project aims to bring stronger continuity, tighter editing & improved pacing to all 12 films in the Friday the 13th movie series.
I've worked out a new timeline so that everything works out chronologically, instead of being the mess it's always been.
Also, each film now happens on a real Friday the 13th, except Pt.s 3 & 4, which wouldn't. On-screen dates are changed & added so that everything tracks.
Opening credits & recaps are removed. A new "A (directors name) Film" credit has been added to the beginning of each film, matching the one from Pt.2.
New title logos replace the old title sequences. Each opening theme is edited to match the new, shorter title sequences.
I've also cut out filler & tightened the editing. This all creates better atmosphere & the shorter runtimes are better for movie marathons.
Each film now opens with the classic F13th music cue, Overlay of Evil playing over the production logos / director credit & ends with a short post-credits scene
with the same music cue. This really ties the room together.

Sources Used:
Video-

All 12 films are sourced from the 2020 Scream Factory boxset, featuring new 4K sourced scans of Pt.s 1-4 & new 2K scans of JGtH & JX.
I'm using the unrated cuts where available- Pt.1 UNCUT, JGtH UNRATED & F13'09 KILLER CUT.

Audio-
As for audio, I've used the stereo mixes. The early films sound more natural in stereo than surround.
The later films in the series have nice 5.1 mixes, but I've kept them all stereo for project continuity.

Release Info:
I've organized the 12 films into three sets of four films:

VOLUME ONE : TRIBULATIONS - (Parts 1-4) The original Crystal Lake massacre
VOLUME TWO : RESURRECTIONS
- (Parts 5-8) Returns of the Crystal Lake killer
VOLUME THREE : VARIATIONS -
(Parts 9-12)
Legends of the Crystal Lake maniac

Dividing the series up like this makes sense to me, both from a story perspective & for marathons, which these are perfect for.
The films are in chronological order instead of release order. JASON X & FREDDY vs. JASON switch places for this to happen.
Those of you who have the Nightmare on Elm Street [raymix] series will already have my edit of FvJ, but it's only right to include it here as well.

The Changes:
The overall backstory
has been re-worked so that it... works.
It may seem to counter some of what we learn in Pt.1, but remember, we only hear small-town rumors & the ravings of two insane people.
Now, let your buddy Ray tell ya what really happened...
In 1969, a young Jason Voorhees fell off the dock while unsupervised by the counselors at Camp Crystal Lake.
He nearly drowned before being saved by his mother, Pamela, who volunteered to work at the camp as a cook every summer.
Even though her son survived the indecent, Pamela still blamed the counselors for Jason's would-be death, which triggered in her a violent madness & rage.
That night, in her anger, she murdered two of the counselors, then set fire to one of the cabins.
This all went unsolved.
After this, Pamela kept Jason hidden away at their home deep in the woods, believing she was protecting her child from the cruel outside world.
She taught Jason to hate everyone besides his loving mother.
Her love & madness were all he ever knew...
This is all cleared up at the beginning of my edit of Pt.2.

The changelists are in chronological order. No hows or whys are given, but feel free to ask me about anything. I'd love to talk all about it!

VOLUME ONE : TRIBULATIONS (Parts 1-4) The Original Crystal Lake Massacre
vol1-poster.png

Pt.1-
Flashback- Fri.13 June 1969 (was 1958)
Present Day- Fri.13 June 1975 (was 1980)
this moves the opening flashback forward by 11 years & the "present day" back by 5 years, leaving a gap of 6 years instead of 21. This corrects Jason's age & helps the chronology of the rest of the series going forward. both dates are real Friday the 13ths.

Pt.2-
Thurs.12 - Fri.13 June 1980
this moves the timeline back by a year, setting the movie on a real Friday the 13th.

Pt.3-
Present Day- Sat.14 - Sun.15 June 1980
Flashback- Fri.13 October 1978
the flashback isn't dated on screen, but there's a nifty bit of trivia for ya! It's another real Friday the 13th.

Pt.4-
Mon.16 - Tues.17 June 1980
this shows that Rob has had 4 days & 3 nights to be out looking for Jason. that's plenty of time for his story to track out. (his sister was Sandra from Pt.2)

WHY SHOULD I TRUST YOU WITH THIS? ~A QUOTE FROM YOU
I've been a horror fan my entire 40 years of life. I was drawn to horror movies long before I was old enough to watch them & have lived my life soaking in this stuff.
The long-running Friday the 13th series always had it's own shelf at the video store, where all the VHS covers would be lined up next to each other. This alone made them seem legendary. Through the late 80's, I was constantly changing my mind on which one was gonna be the scariest.
Through my teens I rented the VHS tapes & spent many Friday nights watching with my friends. Jason was always on our minds if we were on the river or in the woods!
In my 20's I got the DVD set & once again had fun going through the series with friends. Now I've got the big blu-ray boxset, which is a fans dream come true.
Documentaries, books, commentaries, interviews, articles. I've hacked through it all.

I realize the Friday the 13th films aren't high art; they're silly slashers made quick n' cheap. The acting is uneven. The plots are simple, repetitive & occasionally stupid.
But I think this series is very fun & full of iconic characters & moments. Great for screaming & laughing along with. Perfect for movie marathon nights with friends.
I hope these versions will enhance that experience for you. Whether you're familiar with the series or camping for the first time, I hope you have fun at Crystal Lake!

Funny timing of this project.....last week I visited the camp where they filmed the first movie. It has me in the Jason mood, so I look forward to seeing your progress on this!

I've updated the OP with some clarifications & my final change lists for the first 4 films.
If anybody has any input or ideas, I'd love to hear it!
Otherwise, I should have the first 4 ready to go Friday, October 8th!

OP updated with an explanation of the new timeline & a visual comparison added to the Pt.1 changes.
(I'm mostly making editorial changes to these films, so I thought I'd throw in a visual change comparison where I could)

OP updated with details on the new re-worked backstory.
While it may seem to counteract some of what we learn in Pt.1, keep in mind we only hear rumors from people in town & the ravings of an insane person.
(also, my edit changes a few facts in Pt.1. The story is set straight at the beginning of my edit of Pt.2.)

Hey, I just wanted to reiterate that the versions I'm sending out may not be final.
I'll be taking all your feedback into consideration & making a final pass on each film before releasing the full 12 film set, Part1-Remake.
PM for the link to Volume One.
I'm looking forward to hearing any & all thoughts!

VOICE ACTOR WANTED!
I'm looking for a good voice actor who can sound like a 15ish year old American boy. Four lines of dialog. 12 words.
All dialog is off-screen, so no worries about sync.
PM if you wanna be the original JASON VOORHEES!

Added the changelist for FREDDY VS. JASON to the OP!
That's 10 movies down, 2 to go! JASON X is now on the operating table.

JASON X changelist added to the OP!
That just leaves the 2009 Reboot left to edit.
