Totally Buck Rogers!  I never specifically thought of that, but yeah, I think it's especially an influence and there are obvious homages early on.  You nailed it.

Definitely go back and pick this series up.  I finally was able to go back and finish it as I had missed the final season resurrection and the TV movies.  High quality rescue there.  Phenomenal series to the end.
 
Farscape is my favourite TV show of all time, and it saddens me that it is quite obscure.
