• Most new users don't bother reading our rules. Here's the one that is ignored almost immediately upon signup: DO NOT ASK FOR FANEDIT LINKS PUBLICLY. First, read the FAQ. Seriously. What you want is there. You can also send a message to the editor. If that doesn't work THEN post in the Trade & Request forum. Anywhere else and it will be deleted and an infraction will be issued.
  • If this is your first time here please read our FAQ and Rules pages. They have some useful information that will get us all off on the right foot, especially our Own the Source rule. If you do not understand any of these rules send a private message to one of our staff for further details.

Fanediting with a Mac. Is it really possible?

I fan edit on a Mac.

* Rip using MakeMKV
* Split video and audio streams using MP4Tools
* Split 5.1 into multiple audio wavs using Audacity
* I use iMovie as my editor which I find super easy and fast - forking out hundreds of dollars for a more 'pro' editor is not justifiable for me. Only problem with iMovie is it doesn't export audio to 5.1 (that problem I've yet to solve) but this isn't a deal breaker for me as I don't have a 5.1 setup and all the kids just listen on headphones these days anyway (get off my lawn). I would suggest only a few cinephiles have a 5.1 set up - I know Artisdead does.

A full 5.1 setup is not needed to appreciate surround. Even on most modern soundbars it will sound way better, sometimes with center channel enhancement and surround simulation, not to mention the LFE. I have a simple setup with a smart soundbar and a subwoofer. So if it isn't in surround, I typically won't keep it around. Hey that rhymes.
