So I went to see a free (the best kind of moviegoing) preview screening of Extraordinary Measures tonight. It's a medical drama about a biotech entrepreneur forming an unorthodox partnership with a gruff and cantankerous researcher in order to save his children yadda yadda. The headline here is Brendan "The Mummy" Fraser and Harrison "Indiana Jones" Ford sharing the screen. And I could have guessed this, but it turns out that one of them is significantly taller:

The script and direction are pedestrian but competent, and while Ford gives a perfectly solid "Harrison Ford" performance, Fraser really is rather good, appropriately intense but never over-the-top. He's such a natural goof that it's easy to forget that he's a rather strong actor. And the lovely Kerri Russell gives a nice if unexciting turn as Fraser's wife. I really don't know why she isn't a bigger star.
Grade: B. The material is TV-movie-ish and the delivery is pedestrian, but the strong perfs make it worth seeing if you're willing to put up with the genre's limitations. And as a geek experience, it definitely beats Ford tackling Robert "T-1000" Patrick in the awful, terrible, no-good Firewall.
