• Most new users don't bother reading our rules. Here's the one that is ignored almost immediately upon signup: DO NOT ASK FOR FANEDIT LINKS PUBLICLY. First, read the FAQ. Seriously. What you want is there. You can also send a message to the editor. If that doesn't work THEN post in the Trade & Request forum. Anywhere else and it will be deleted and an infraction will be issued.
  • If this is your first time here please read our FAQ and Rules pages. They have some useful information that will get us all off on the right foot, especially our Own the Source rule. If you do not understand any of these rules send a private message to one of our staff for further details.

There is a film I did an edit for and the source was/is a "fan edit/fan fix" that is by someone not part of this forum. Their version of the film is largely continuity error and vfx fixes. Because of those fixes, I opted to use their version as a base for an actual fan edit. I searched online everywhere to reach them to seek out their blessing to post my edit using their fixed version as a base, but I have had zero luck in reaching them.

So, my question is, what are the rules and guidelines for using someone else's work as a base for your own edit and making public here?

I do not want to break and rules, official or unofficial, so here I am...

As a preventative measure against confusion regarding the OTS rule, we ask that all Own The Source questions be directed to staff via PM.
