Description: By trimming the overlong action sequences and other elements that detract from the story, as well as the re-insertion of deleted scenes, this fan edit provides a better paced, more focused version of agent 007's first adventure.
Original runtime: 144 minutes
New runtime: 125 minutes
Amount of time cut/added: 21 minutes cut, 2 minutes added

Cutlist:

- Added the beginning of the bathroom fight from the extended pre-title sequence. Making it slightly longer doesn't hurt the scene, and it shows Bond's and Fisher's guns ending up on the floor for them to pick up at the end.
- Cut the 5-frame insert of Dryden's family photo as he is shot by Bond. It goes by too fast, and ruins the fluidity of the scene.
- Cut most of Bond chasing Mollaka through the construction site. An excellent action sequence, but one that doesn't further the plot in any way.
- Cut Bond copying data from M's computer. Since Bond checking the GPS later on has been cut, this bit wasn't necessary.
-Shortened the dialogue between Bond and M.
- Shortened the driving sequence, including the removal of Bond using the navigator on his phone. Too much product placement.
- Trimmed Bond looking at the security cameras outside the Ocean Club.
- Trimmed Bond looking at the security recording of Dimitrios.
- Cut the scene where Bond checks in to the hotel. This isn't necessary to show, so the scene was cut for pacing.
- Cut the scene of Bond coming out of the water and Solange riding on the beach. Same as above.
- Trimmed the airport sequence, mostly by removing the pursuing police cars. Another long action sequence that doesn't further the plot.
- Cut M's "Trust me, I wish it weren't the case" after explaining that Bond is MI6's best poker player.
- Cut Vesper's line "I like this poker thing".
- Cut Vesper's "Beautiful" regarding Bond's watch. Too much product placement.
- Cut Vesper's comment about Bond's arse and the surrounding dialogue.
- Cut from Bond's "...hence the shared suite" to Vesper's "Am I going to have a problem with you, Bond?"
- Cut all of Mathis' commentary of the poker game. It's helpful for viewers unfamiliar with poker, but the dialogue is so poorly written that it ruins the otherwise excellent poker sequences.
-Cut the martini joke. Sure, it's funny, but it feels too staged.
- Cut Le Chiffre's line "Wow... You've taken good care of your body." Since I'm editing the UK DVD, which doesn't include his next line "Such a waste", this line is just too... weird.
-Added the extended hospital scene. This adds to the seriousness of Bond's injuries.
- Cut Bond asking Mendel if he brought any chocolate.
- Cut from Vesper's "You can have me anywhere" to Mendel's interruption. The love story works better without Bond being surprised that Vesper has feelings for him.
- Cut all Bond and Vesper's dialogue after Vesper's "...you'd still be more of a man than anyone I've ever met.
- Trimmed Bond and Vesper sailing down the canal in Venice. Vesper showing off her Sony camera has been removed.
- Added the deleted scene with Gettler at the hotel. This compensates for the previous cut, introduces Gettler by name, and keeps a sense of "impending doom" for the duration of the Venice sequence.
- Trimmed the fight sequence in the sinking building. Again, an action sequence that goes on for way too long.

Cool! Congratulations on finishing your first non LOTR fanedit. Welcome to the "normal" herd. ;-)
(and yes, I have almost forgotten King Arthur :))

Thanks, boon! Ah, yes, King Arthur... It's probably a good thing that you disapproved that one!:D
I suppose I might revisit it someday, though I fear that that movie is beyond redemption. And anyway I have lots of other edit ideas with higher priority.

Has much changed changed since the preview version? I already thought you did an excellent job.

Not much. The scene in M's apartment is a bit shorter, and I re-inserted the deleted scene at the hospital. I think I made a few other minor changes as well, but I can't remember any off the top of my head. Also, some audio transitions have been smoothened out.

Watching the movie, the audio seems a notch pitched up. Would it be just me or what?

It's PAL-sourced, and I didn't correct the pitch when converting to NTSC. So no, it's not just you.

Sorry to be that guy, but will it be repaired? Or should I be proactive and offer my assistance?

There isn't anything to "repair" - so the answer is no, at least not by me. Of course, if you, or anyone else, want to take the time to remove the PAL speedup and correct the pitch, that'd be great. For me, though, it's too much work on something that doesn't really bother me.

there are a lot of pal2ntsc conversions without speedup. My suggestion: don't be anal about it. I agree with Kerr, there is nothing to repair. Did you know that every UK movie is 4% too slow in the US? Hugh Grant is not that manly ;-)

That's absolutely fine. Thank you for the replies. The footage is converted to NTSC perfectly, it's just the pitch that bothers me. Again, thank you very much for the edit.

Yes, there's a short fan edit of Quantum of Solace made by Gaith which he allowed me to put on the DVD. It's about five minutes long and includes all the necessary plot points to bridge Casino Royale to Bond 23.

Wow. Just wow. I'll say it again: Wow. It's like Kerr got inside my head and fanedited this movie exactly the way I would have!
The theatrical release I thought it was a step towards the right direction for the Bond series but that at the same time still dragged with itself a lot of dead weight remaining from the less glorious eras of the character. Namely: overblown and overlong action setpieces, impossible stunts, misplaced humor, obvious product placement, overexposition for dummies, the occassional out-of-character behavior... dumbing down into an usual blockbuster something whose charm is not being the usual blockbuster. Otherwise one is better off watching the umpteenth Mission: Impossible sequel. Actually, sometimes I'm led to believe those elements are what people enjoy from a movie, given their prominence, and that I'm just a weirdo. As such, I couldn't join the general raving about it being the best Bond movie ever and amazing and what Bond should be and everything. I mostly felt Martian.
Then, along came Kerr and worked the miracle. He removed tons of fat and the shiny result is a Bond movie as Bond movies should be: dramatic yet thrilling, down to earth and credible yet still containing enough action (the physically possible kind), witty but not goofy, and with 007 the way we like him: the ultimate alpha male in all senses. Even his beta shocked behavior upon discovering Vesper's feelings is gone. I saw the light! "Casino Royale: Straight Flush Edition" is not only an improvement, it's a great Bond film and probably, now, the greatest of all Bond films (this coming from a Connery loyalist). This is the version I can watch over and over again, the version that reminded me why I am a lifelong James Bond fan.
I agree with each and every cut and rearrangement made here... except that I oh-so-wish Kerr had cut M's "I miss the Cold War" line, which he likes and I respect it. It's about the only slice of cheese remaining in the whole running time, and it's very minor. On the other hand, I'm very grateful he cut the "Shaken or stirred" joke: a lot of people seem to like it (I feel Martian again) but I thought the last thing a fresh approach to the character needed was self-referencing humor, and I felt it was out of character: Bond may lose his temper over many things, but a Vodka Martini must always be a proper Vodka Martini.
Video and audio quality is flawless (NTSC zone viewers have commented on the pitch being slightly high, but as I live in the PAL zone I didn't even notice) and the editing itself is totally invisible and professional. A full-rounded 10/10. Keep them coming, Kerr!
