Tagline: De Niro. Pesci. Vegas.

Original film name: Casino
New film name: Casino (Destoned)
Film studio name: Universal Pictures
Edit crew name: geKKo
Date original film was released: November 22, 1995
Date edit was released: August 17, 2007
Original runtime: 2h 52m (without credits)
New runtime: 1h 42m
Amount of time Cut/Added: 70 minutes

Cuts removed/added/extended:
- Removed most scenes involving Ginger. She has no major dialogue in the remaining scenes.
- Removed all Lester scenes.
- Removed opening sequence and credit montage.
- Trimmed some scenes for better pacing.

Video: 854 x 480, H.264, 1800kbps
Audio: 48kHz, AAC, 128kbps, Stereo

Your intention for this fanedit:
Keep the focus on Ace and his casino; Nicky and his gangster antics.

Hardware and software information (what did you use to create your fanedit):
Final Cut Pro 6

Additional Comment:
I like Casino even with Sharon Stone, but I wanted to see if it worked without the Ginger/Lester storyline. I tried to remove Ginger completely, but her presence is critical in one key scene (talking on the phones to fool the feds). So the best I could do is minimize her screentime. Now, instead of Ginger being part of Ace's downfall, it's Nicky who solely brings it about.

Time needed for the edition:
2 days

Persons involved:
geKKo

just some advice: if you are going to release a "high quality non-DVD" try to make it divx/ac3 in AVI

MANY dvd players will play this format. it makes a lot of sense to release that instead of a quicktime file which nothing supports.

the idea is getting your edit out to as many people as possible. a DVD is most compatible. an AVI is second best. everything else is not compatible at all.

The codec is H.264 and AAC so you just have to have those codecs installed and most media players should be able to playback. AVI, MOV, MKV, etc are just containers. H.264 produces better quality than DivX/Xvid as well, so that is my preferred codec. It also plays back fine on AppleTV.

i won't release a compressed video with AC3 audio. to keep the file size manageable for torrents, i allocate most of the bitrate to video. stereo audio at 128kbps is good enough for me.

also, my edits are really just for me and my friends. if no one else downloads them, that's fine with me. i just happen to post here to share with others who may be interested.

so i hear what you're saying about wanting divx/ac3, but i won't be doing them that way ever. boon usually creates a dvd from the h264 file, so if that's what you want you can wait for him to release it.

But many Fanedit fans demand to be able to watch on their TVs, hence why DVD-Video is the standard. Just FYI.

hey, i'm not dissuading you from your reasons.

i'm just telling you it doesn't make sense.

if appletv and a computer are the only thing that will play it back (and EVERY format is supported with computer-playback, so that isn't a "feature") then you are denying YOUR AUDIENCE the chance to view it.

if you don't care about that then why release it in the first place?

if you expect someone to convert your MOV to DVD or DIVX that doesn't make sense either.

you are just making a lot of work for anyone that wants to watch your releases.

my friends and i do watch it on tv, but we just use appletv or hook up our pc/macs via dvi to our plasmas or lcd's. burning it to dvd doesn't make sense for us. i guess i'm my own audience so i really don't have to please anyone but myself. ;)

anyways, i'm not trying to be a dick about it. it's just easier for me to do it my way. hope that makes sense.

that is about what I assumed from the beginning. I am happy you create fanedits. Of course people prefer DVDs, but they might have to get used to your attitude of not wanting to create them. It is no big deal. I am quite happy with the DVD I can create from your versions, which are for quicktime movies real good quality and I don't mind continuing to create them.

yeah it's just weird...

most faneditors are interested in feedback and stuff, so it's just different that you don't care about that.

I'm not really sure why you keep on badgering gekko, but it's quite simple if you don't like how gekko chooses to release them then don't d/led them..

...and a comment about the DVD, AVI or MOV matter is not really feedback on the fanedit, right?

joebshmoe,
please keep in mind that i am not a movie studio. i don't get paid for making these edits. i don't have "customers" to cater to. and although feedback would be nice, it's not essential for me to continue making edits. but if you get a chance to check out casino or any of my other edits, feel free to share your thoughts here.

cheers.

If there's really a problem in viewing fanedits a certain way, why not d/l it and recode it? Can't that be done?

btw: LOVE the concept, gekko. I'll be d/l'ing this and watching it.

The DVD of this is finished and is going up on Rapidshare now. Of course the "perfect" picture and sound quality are ONLY on the ORIGINAL quicktime movie, available currently via bittorrent. As always I have put my best effort into making this still a good quality release, upgraded the rather weak 2.0 128kbit source sound into 5.1 and created from what I think some pretty cool menus, all with sound.
The DVD version was created, because people like me prefer to watch on their TV using the comfort of a DVD player.
But if you watch on your PC anyway, the best thing to do is to watch the quicktime movie.
The DVD also features a trailershow of fanedit trailers, including the following trailers:
King Kong Vintage
Titanic - Jack Edit
Star Wars Reborn
Wing Commander - Countdown to Invasion
Blade 3 - Behead The King Edition
Star Wars - Rise Of The Empire
Superman III - The Smallville Cut

All trailers are now 16:9 with ac-3 sound.
enjoy soon.

might have to remake this as the edit is nowhere to be found. 70 minutes cut is pretty impressive. this film really does drag.

It was in the back of my mind to do a cut similar to this but I have alot of other projects to make before I get there.
And the Blu-ray has some deleted scenes as well
That might be useful.
A HD Edit of this sounds great đź‘Ť
