It's time for another public poll for the 2011 Annual Fanedit.Org Awards.
This time we want you to pick what you think were the 5 Best Edits By A New Editor.
What does this mean exactly? Any edit that was released by a newly approved faneditor in 2011. This doesn't mean "Best First Edit", but more like "Best Freshman Year Edit".
We have 32 edits by Freshman this year, 4 of which (4!) were FEOTM winners. Those 4 aren't included in this poll. The winners of this poll will go on to the second round of nominations for the Awards, and the FE Academy will vote for who goes onto the Final Round for this category.
Here is the criteria the final nominees will be judged on:
In summary, the Best Edit by a New Editor should be evaluated in terms of how well does this represent the overall art of fanediting? How well does it execute on all of the fundamental aspects which make fanediting its own unique artform?
Here are the 4 FEOTM winners not included in the poll:
Watchmen: Midnight by Flixcapacitor
Quantum of Solace: Bond's Revenge by Last Survivor
L.A. Confidential Recut by Neglify
Star Wars Episode I: The Ridiculous Menace by TV's Frink

Here is the criteria the final nominees will be judged on:
- Quality of Audio and Video editing - The ideal fanedit makes the edits themselves invisible to a casual viewer within context of the intention of the editor.
- Audio - Audio editing should not cause pops, stray components and/or background from other scenes which should not be there. Audio is properly synchronized and balanced within the audio-design (5.1, Stereo etc). The hand of the editor should be inaudible to the viewer.
- Video - Video editing lacks flash-frames and abrupt/jarring hard-cuts. In short the editing itself has the feel of professionalism and should match/complement the nature of the edit.
- Storytelling - Fanedits will be evaluated on the ability of the faneditor to create a compelling and entertaining alternative from the original film. Quality storytelling isnât limited to âimprovingâ a film but includes the faneditorâs ability to create something new, including creating alternatively entertaining versions of original films which are already considered âGreatâ movies.
- Execution of intention - Every faneditor has an intent when they create a fanedit. How clear is this intention and how well did they execute on this intention?
- Impact of changes - What was the net effect of their change? Did the changes create a compelling viewing experience? Was it engaging and provide entertainment/value?
- Overall Enjoyment - While the most subjective of criteria, this is also what every edit boils down to; Was this edit fun and enjoyable? Was this worth the viewersâ time and is it something that the viewer would be happy to recommend/share with others?
