Battlestar Galactica

A lot of people want Caprica to be another "spaceships n 'splosions" show, at which point they'll proceed to complain about cardboard characters and recycled plots.

You can't please everybody.

I'm not overly enamoured with Caprica, yet. But I'll keep watching. I'm just not sure where it's going thus far.

I won't be picking up Caprica when it's finally released on Blu, but I'll watch it while it's on the air. It's interesting to see what the Colonies were like before being destroyed.

While it is unclear to me if remastered BSG will also include new FX (like Star Trek), here is what it could look like with new fx work.

This "proof of concept" clip was created by Adam "Mojo" Lebowitz.

Galactica 1980 remastered...what the world had wished for, surely

Yep, some of the worst hours of television ever lol. Though the Return of Starbuck ep is definitely remaster-worthy. :D

Holy Frack!!!!
The original and BEST, Battlestar Galactica is being released on BLU-RAY and completely REMASTERED!!!

Boxy - Muffit - the alien of the week
We watched the whole Battlestar Ponderosa (Harlan Ellison's term), week after week, when it originally aired.
My brother and I jeered it constantly, but it was better than Buck Rogers, year two of Space 1999, Lost In Space reruns.
It was not UFO or Blake's 7 or even Star Trek cartoons.
I never understand the love for BG: TOS.
Still couple it with Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea.

Maren Jensen and Laurette Spang fondly recalled.

Sunday, September 17, 1978, my family is visiting my cousins for an evening of Sunday Pot Roast.
The kids are gathered in the living room watching the new LASSIE series on ABC. During the show they keep running commercials for something called BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.
We don't know what it is, but it looks cool and we are appropriately intrigued.

LASSIE comes to an end and the 3 Hour Epic Movie Premiere begins, and the moment the first few notes of Stu Phillips iconic score hit my little ears, I am completely hooked. This movie tapped into everything I loved at that time.... classical mythology, ancient astronaut theory, epic space opera, iconic heroes and best of all, really evil robots!!!

For me, this is MY STAR WARS, my fundamental Geek Moment! I mean, the Bionic Man was my first hero, and Star Trek was the show I compared all other scifi shows against -- but BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was something MORE. It hit me at just the right moment and I fell head over heels in love with it from start to end.

There was never really a show quite like it before on television up until that point.
Some people try to dismiss it as a Star Wars rip-off, in fact, Lucas even sued Universal over this, and LOST the case.:p

It was a show ahead of it's time in many respects.
Not since SPACE 1999 had their been a tv sci-fi show with such incredible professional film quality special effects.
BSG easily set the standard for some of the best F/X work on television for all of the 1980s and even the early 1990s.
One just has to look at BUCK ROGERS which followed a couple years later and compare the two shows,
BR looks cheap and poorly done when put side by side with BSG.

But it was also a show that dealt with it's subject in a fairly serious manner (casino planets not withstanding....LOL!) while remaining highly entertaining.
It had a very tight continuity, with serialized subplots (which was very rare for 1970s tv) and strong characterization.
Originally conceived as 3 TV Movies of the Week (wow, remember those???),
the 3 hour pilot movie was such a huge ratings hit, ABC ordered it to series right away.
While not fully prepared to produce a weekly series, Glen Larson and his writers (including up and coming Donald P. Bellisario) managed to create some truly EPIC storylines. Yes there were a couple of real stinkers ("The Young Lords", anyone?) but they were far out numbered by some truly classic moments of entertainment ( Lost Planets of the Gods, Ice Planet Zero, Living Legend, War of the Gods, The Hand of God). In fact, I would do so far to argue, that one brief season of classic BSG has more rewatchable entertainment value than all of the four seasons of nuBSG combined

That actually was pretty impressive! I geeked through the same BG experience, but was thinking there would be no entertainment value for me now. Might just be wrong about that!

I still find all the multi-part episodes exceptionally entertaining. I also highly recommend (if you can find them) dkerin's BSG fan edits, as they are all very well done and he created new FX for them too.

In regards to the posted clip created by Mojo (he is/was a member of this site as Mojo_la), he was part of the FX team on nuBSG (along with other tv shows) and created the clip with others in an attempt to sell Universal on the idea updating the classic series with new fx a couple years back.

So, does this mean a remastered HD release of Space Mutiny is now possible?

Wow! I had never heard of this monstrosity before and had to look it up.... LOL! It is sooooooo weird seeing my beloved BSG fx as part of another movie... bizarre!!!!

The MST3K version is one of their all time best episodes. Strongly recommended.

This and "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" are among the few MST3K-riffed movies that can be watched and "enjoyed" with or without Mike and the 'Bots, it's a class a-trainwreck. It's lead star even played Captain America in two 70s movies, one of which featured Christopher Lee

And to prove once again you can find just about any old thing on Youtube, here's the end credits theme from the movie best known for starting the infamous "GO TIME 80S MAN" fight between Mike and the 'Bots during the climax

I saw a vhs of Space Mutiny in a liquidation store years ago and didn't have enough money to buy it, could never remember the name of it except that the cover said "from the team that brought you Star Wars" Haha! Was cool to finally find out what it was while watching that BOTW episode.

Apologies for the tardy reply.
Yeah, Bob, your memories are undoubtedly correct.
We all carry memories of treasured shows and movies that were so influential to us at a certain age.
I often compared (and sometimes still do) speculative shows against memories of The Outer Limits.
So if they remaster BSG, by all means work up a rippin' edit of the "Pegasus" episodes.

Outer Limits!!! Luv that show!

The only reason I have never attempted any classic BSG fan edits is because dkerin beat me to it.:) His version of Living (Pegasus) Legend is cool with some neat new fx.

Though I have toyed with the idea of somehow combining SAGA of a Starworld and Lost Planet of the Gods together? Have the fall of the colonies, cut out the whole casino planet, and instead have them discover Kobol. Maybe one day....
