My good buddy @dkerin is at it again! :D

He decided to try to give the 1978 classic BSG pilot movie SAGA OF A STARWORLD a fresh coat of paint.

Hey there Zarius!   Really glad to hear you liked the edit, and that it helped!!!   Battlestar was something that I have enjoyed since it premiered when I was a kid.   And definitely gave me some great fun to escape to at varying times of my life.   :)

And thanks of course to Bob for posting and sharing this as well.   I always fall short when it comes to the actual sharing and communications side of things, so thank God Bob is there to help!!!   Well actually, if it wasn't for his way of planting little ideas in my head, my last several edits would never have happened at all.

Cheers Dave, yeah Battlestar, both versions, tends to really lift us up at times of nagging doubt or diminished confidence, be it the foundation laid out before us with existing material, or the great promise of what could have been :)

Just watched it tonight and really enjoyed it.

Very curious about the source material; did you use the Blu-Ray in your version, and if so, which source (full screen, widescreen, movie + non-movie, etc)?

One of the things that catches my eye when watching the original is how there is a black outline around the Cylon fighters every time they pass over the Galactica in shots (part of the matte process). I thought it would be nice if someone superimposed a slightly larger Cylon ship over the existing with modern tools, just to get past that.

I know that for me, watching original Battlestar as an entire series grew to be tedious because you would see the same effects shots over and over and most were from the first 5 hours of the program.

I think the best parts of your version were the projections added in the Cylon Base Star. They blended absolutely flawlessly, so much so that you would think they were always there.

I want to see more like this! Bravo!

It was from the 4x3 bluray.   I have the edition with both the widescreen versions and the 4x3, but decided to go with the original 4x3 format it started in.   While I own them, I do not have a drive to rip them for the edit, so a friend took care of that part for me.   Only mentioning that because I would not have specs on what settings were used to convert to a digital file.

Funny how those matte lines appear more and more as you watch.   And if you ever watch Galactica 1980 (not many do!) in the scene where the raiders attack Los Angeles, in shots you can see the black support peg sticking out of the back of the raiders.   Was never noticeable in space shots, but against a blue sky it really stands out.    When I was a kid watching G1980 I thought they did a weird redesign to the back of the ships for a moment.

Also... as HD can show more things like matte lines, it can also reveal more wires on things like Space: 1999's Eagles.   (still love those FX too!)

Space: 1999 is a masterpiece of Special Effects for that day and age (and on Television, no less)!

Thanks for the details on the source material; I own the double Blu-Ray set as well, so that was why I asked.

Bionic Bob - thanks for letting people like me who are new to Fanedit, the BSG Club, and other BSG sites to view Mr. Kerin's enhanced edit of Saga of a Star World. I really didn't know sites like these existed or otherwise I would have been part of this fandom many years ago. Mr. Kerin... if you're "seeing" this... I can't tell you the emotions I felt when I watched your edit. I was a kid again feeling just like I did back on Sept. 17th 1978 at 8:00pm watching like millions of others. The edits you made are spectacular and continue to make Saga of a Star World a more complete, epic adventure. I hope in the future I'm able to view you're other BSG fan edits. Bionic Bob - thanks again  :) .

Wow... many thanks for your kind words!   I have to say getting to play around with these edits is a way that takes me back to being that kind in 1978 as well.   I remember the Monday after going into my 5th grade class room and drawing a big side view of the Galactica on the chalk board.

I don't really have the other edits online anywhere, and I know others have tried sharing on youtube, but that is not a thing to do as Universal quickly removes them.   Which hey, I get it... it is their product.  :)

Actually on facebook, if you look up Battlestar Galactica Fan Creations, there is the full video for the BSG/Space 1999 crossover.   Others are all short vids.

I added a review. :)

Watching this brings back memories of the totally awesome "Battle of Galactica" adventure at the Universal Studios Tour in Hollywood in the 1980s.

I was lucky to get to see that before it closed.  Think it was in the late 80s.   Friend of mine went to school in California, so flew out there to visit and do a drive back across country together.   While there saw this at Universal.   We also found the Dean Jeffries lot (well, we saw it from the other side of the fence) where we saw parked the Damnation Alley Landmaster, and the hover cars from the Logan's Run TV series.   What a trip!!!

45 Yahrens BATTLESTAR GALACTICA premiered on ABC with a 3 hour movie.

Technically longer, as the movie was interrupted for almost an hour by a breaking news story with President Jimmy Carter.

Only one season, and for me, pure magic.
This was/is MY SHOW.
Love the characters. Love the universe.
If it's a choice, I will choose classic BSG over Star Wars without hesitation every single time.

Classic BSG is too quickly and wrongly dismissed as 70s scifi camp. People joke about the Casino Planet, seemingly forgetting about the horrific body harvesting happening underneath. In most respects, it was a show far ahead of the curve for genre tv in terms of world building and continuing storylines. Yes, like any Network show there are bad episodes (Young Lords lol) but overall, BSG space opera narrative was exceptional for the time imo. For me, it was easily one of Larson's best written shows.

So Happy Battlestar Day my fellow Colonials! :)
