Anyone else feels kinda disappointed of how most content from streaming services aren't getting a blu-ray and DVD release?

Those were Disney produced, they just licensed distribution to Netflix for a certain length of time.

The netflix exclusive season of Young Justice also left netflix. Again, not the same thing, but to the average viewer a netflix original is a netflix original regardless of the deals behind the scenes. I don't know what point l'm trying to make here, l'm too tired for this.

Netflix Marvel stuff left Netflix.
…as did so called Netflix Trek…which turned out to be just branding it Netflix… Paramount took it back...Turned out there was some production contribution but a messy arrangement

This is going to be a real problem for myself and anyone else who loves practical-focused action movies in particular. For example, there's a new film called The Princess, released at the beginning of July on Disney+ in the UK and on Hulu in the US (don't know about anywhere else). This is what actually inspired me to look into how to do editing, because the reviews aren't great for it, but I really don't think it would take much work to fix it.

I think just a simple chronological reorder (rather than flashbacks) and some light dialogue editing to remove the focus on the Princess having "a warrior's heart" in favour of just letting the 'a woman can't be the ruler or heir so she has to marry' and 'women shouldn't be allowed to fight' messages to shine through. It's a simple message, and setting it up at the beginning and then leading into a series of awesome fight scenes would keep the simplicity of the film and let the action be the story rather than punctuate the flashbacks and the arguments between the King and the usurper.

Of course, none of this is possible, because there won't be a physical release (at least of this film, there's a physical release of a film with the same name planned for later this year but it's just a Princess Diana documentary instead).

Another big problem is that the companies can change and/or censor their movies and shows as they please and you can't get your hands on the original version if it ever gets a physical release (not legally anyway).
This is the really sinister part of this huge move to streaming IMO. And I think companies are really only on the verge of realising how much power they have to alter works without consequences from (or knowledge of) the creators.

It's thoroughly disappointing to see that these companies want to direct people towards a permanent leasing arrangement. I want to be able to own a film outright, and play it whenever I choose to.

Sort of the wrong thread-ish but I wanted to kvetch...

I own all the original run of 14x Sharpe movies 93-97 on blu-ray (they look amazing in HD by the way) but I've never owned the two 2006/2008 "come back" movies because I didn't like them that much. But as I'm doing a rewatch I thought I'd finally buy them, see them again and maybe do some fanediting on them. Turns out they are now out-of-print and cost a fortune. These things used to be bargain bin fodder. Even if I did only just want to watch them once, I'd have to psychically know which streamer currently has them .

Also sort of on the subject of this thread... as somebody who has been trying to watch their way through loads of old classics movies, all the streamers serve this niche extremely poorly, they seem to focus 90% of their libraries towards new stuff. It's going to become next to impossible, or expensive to watch old movies (that aren't blockbusters) in future.

Know Tubi has a bunch of the old 80's-90's films on there but there is a lack of 50's-60's films sadly.

Last I checked, BritBox has the Sharpe movies. Not sure about the come back movies, though.
Edit: Just checked, the come back movies are on there too.

I just had a look on CEX website, they have the blu rays of Sharpe's Peril for £6 and Sharpe's Challenge for £18, trouble with pre-owned is you never know what condition the discs will be in.

Ooh I hadn't thought of that. If I can find £24 worth of stuff to trade in I could get them for "free" ish. Thanks.

Yeah, their video collection is generally more fairly priced than the games they sell. But even they can be aware of the value of some stuff (limited edition critereon, Arrow, Eureka and so forth)

Its a chain of stores specialising in second hand games, films and electronics. Mostly around the UK. However, I did find one randomly in San Francisco so assume there are a few in other countries too.

A new digital world is coming...digital media, digital cash, digital IDs. Unless something drastic happens, this is the future. Buy physical discs while you can. I think they will eventually be phased out; the younger generations don't care.

I worked at cex. Seeing the name here made me shudder.

Decent place for physical media though. Blurays are hard to scratch so you should be safe buying from them.
