[UPDATES - FEEDBACK TIME]
Preview #1 - The Sith! have returned?
The idea:
- The Sith potentially having returned is now supposed to be highly dramatic, like a gut punch you refuse to believe. Therefore, the Jedi now react accordingly.
- Mace Windu is supposed to react very negatively to this "boy" that is strong in the force, to set up Windu's dislike for Anakin further on in the trilogy. There is little trust here, and I think this comes across accordingly.
- Set up a more menacing tone that is now developing towards the end of the second act, before the Trade Federation Ship and the ending battle on Naboo. The presence of the Sith is being felt, by Jedi and audience alike.
Preview #2 - We need help! The Republic in denial.
The idea:
- To set the matching tone of the beginning, in which Naboo is being overrun by the Federation, and how they are now in desperate need of help.
- To show how helpless Naboo really are, how ignorant the Republic is and how desperate the Queen of Naboo is for help.
- To develop the movie into a darker place towards its final act, a tone of darkness and helplessness.
- To bridge some more scenes from the Maul fanfilm with the original content of TPM/TAL, to show the increasing darkness taking place.
NOTE THIS: In a previous scene, not released here, Sidious has ordered Maul to go to Naboo after his failure in killing Qui-Gon and the Queen, and kill whatever Jedi that are there.
Preview #3 - Yoda sensing the growing darkness.
The Idea:
- Subtly transition from Yoda's speech about Anakin's potential path towards the darker side, to Maul's dark side, as to subtly show what that would mean.
- Show Yoda seeing and feeling Maul's anger and despair, starting to believe the Sith are back.
- Show Yoda worried, as to also worry the audience. Something is not right, and we have a battle ahead.
- Show Maul being a little emotional and slightly reluctant, as to make it clear to the audience he is just a manipulated pupil of a much darker master. Might even help making Maul's death a little sad, as if wishing for his redemption or maybe even looking for it.
