Just caught up with the last episode. Pretty good, at least at the end it tried doing something different from the other finales. But, would I be alone in saying that S4 was the weakest so far, by a large margin? Most of the characters appeared to be acting totally at random and contradicting themselves half the time, which got a bit tiresome for me at points.

^ The only character I felt engaged with in the season. He was interesting, he had principles and goals and he acted on them. He seemed to be acting according to those goals and not doing bizarre things because the writers needed a quick cliffhanger.

I would disagree. My least favorite season so far has been 2. 1 seemed really nearly perfect and I was a bit disappointed with 2. Personal preference I guess.
3 was almost the worst for me only because of the overdone torture scenes with Theon but it has some great stuff too, so my ranking goes 1,4,3,2.

I just hope little miss silver hair stops being boring at some point. Went from one of the more interesting characters in the first 2 seasons, but come season 3 and 4, I want to sleep when she shows up. She also comes off as a bit of a bitch, even though she frees slaves.

In the books, I had completely reversed feelings about her. I'm not sure how they managed to adapt it like that...

I rarely recommend reading the book before watching the movie for any big film or tv show, but for GoT I cannot recommend the books highly enough. They're vastly superior to the show (it's a good show), and my favorite novels of all time. Just ridiculously good, and you don't have to be a fantasy fan to enjoy them (my gf loves the first book which she just finished and she hates fantasy).

Also, the board game is great [emoji6] That's how I first learned about the books, playing it in college

Watch the FULL Game of Thrones panel at Comic-Con!

Summary:

Season 5 will feature some new locations. Benioff confirmed that the series would continue shooting in Belfast, and revealed that it would also go to Croatia and Spain. (The latter is rumored to be the stand-in for Dorne.)

We will learn more about Stannis (“the Mannis”) Baratheon. “He’s a fascinating character, amazingly well drawn by Stephen Dillane and we will be taking advantage of both the character and the actor in the upcoming season,” said Weiss.

Yes, some folks have a problem with the nudity on Game of Thrones. “We lost a location this year to a man who did not want his property to be involved with ‘Porn of Thrones,’” recalled Weiss. Benioff quipped: “If the Bible thumpers stopped thumping for a moment and read the books, they’d see there’s just as much incest as in the Bible.”

Bradley has a suggestion for how Game of Thrones can include more male nudity. “The good thing about me and male nudity is that everybody wins because they’ll still get the boob count up,” he joked.

Turner loves the new, badass Sansa. “It was frickin’ awesome,” she said of her character’s development this season. She also hopes Sansa and Tyrion will reunite: “I think they’d be an awesome power couple, the new Brangelina.”

Everyone wants more episodes… “The things I mourn are the scenes that didn’t make it,” said Martin about the differences between the book and the show. “I wish we had three more episodes a season.”

… But it’s not gonna happen. “Believe us, from a storytelling perspective we’d love to have 13 episodes,” said Benioff. “The problem is [that we have] absolutely no downtime between the end of one season and the start of the next.” More episodes wouldn’t be feasible in that timeframe.

You should really be reading the books and watching the show. Benioff and Weiss admitted that the show simply didn’t have the time or the structure to include everything from the books, like Tyrion’s backstory. So they hope fans will turn to Martin’s work instead. “They can learn more about these characters [by picking up the books] than they ever would by watching the show alone,” said Benioff.

Finally finished a Dance with Dragons after reading bit by bit over many months...

Seriously, WTF man??? Lol Martin is the cruellest author of all time-- after the relatively "ok" Feast for Crows (relative only to the incredible Storm of Swords), I didnt have very high hopes for Dance with Dragons, and it does meander a lot during the first (?!) 400 pages or so, as in nothing crucial happens, but all of a sudden during the last ~300+ pages everything ramps up and we see the familiar cold bleak brutality from AGOT and SOS again, suddenly becomes a nonstop page-turner...

I just don't understand why it has to be this way lol. Yes I know in retrospect, it makes the story far more memorable, like Ned's fate or the Red Wedding but ... damn it
Jon Snow
was one of my favorite characters, and clearly one of the two last great characters in the saga; I wasn't a huge fan of
Dany
so that character's fate was more bearable to me at least.

Judging by how fast the TV show is moving, my guess is that this will all be in Season 5, as they have to do Feast and Dance simultaneously to keep timelines straight, and since pretty much nothing happens in Feast..
Martins a master storyteller, and these stories are incredible..

Fantastic episode tonight. No show knows how to ramp up towards the end of a season like GoT. Many say they've found this season slow but I've loved every episode. Tonight's ep kicked all kinds of ass.

I've heard it called slow a lot this season and honestly, I find it puzzling. More people are going where other people are and plot lines are intersecting and more stuff is happening now than ever before, in my opinion. I think it's been incredibly strong this year. I got chills when Dany and Tyrion sat down to talk - I've been waiting many years for that moment.

FWIW most people who have read the books are not as upset as you are about the ending because

we pretty much all assume Melisandre is going to resurrect him. The R+L=J theory was already really strong but after this season of the television show, it seems pretty much confirmed so he will have a large role to play in the endgame.

That was awesome! Thanks for posting. I particularly liked Sophie and Gwendolyn's answers regarding strong female characters. Everybody handled the baity criticism questions really well.

Huh, people don't discuss this show much around here these days.  Then again, I only just started the first book. and watched the first five seasons this past summer.

Anyhow, season 6 looks exciting and nice to hear the season has a $10 million+ budget per episode and its first proper battle sequence in the latter half.

S8:E3 spoiler ahead...

It was definitely worth waiting 7 seasons to find out that...

...the way to defeat the undefeatable Night King and his Undead horde was just to stab him. How much more satisfying would it have been in the Avengers films if Iron Man had just stabbed Thanos instead of devoting 2 Epic movies to all our heroes defeating him together.
