Hmmm... well, not from '92 or '99, but maybe Ip Man 3? Donnie Yen said he was done playing the character but there was a wave of other films and TV series based on him, none of them capturing the magic of the first. So then Yen comes back with the original director, Wilson Yip, and the result was.... mixed at best. (Actually, I'm a Phantom Menace defender though, particularly in the wake of The Last Jedi!)TM2YC said:So what was the 1992 Hong Kong equivalent of Phantom Menace?
Never heard of Naked Killer and Wicked City. I notice the latter is by Tsui Hark, I'll look out for them. Thanks.
Oh, you're in for a treat! Particularly with Wicked City, which is a bonkers movie based on a wild anime from a crazy novel series, lol. I haven't watched it in forever, so I'm sure the effects look horrible, but they were never cutting edge anyway. They just had a crazy over-the-top appeal. This is definitely a cult film... will look forward to your review.
Speaking of which... saw a couple films back around MLK Jr. Day:
Mississippi Burning (1988)
I have to admit the cast is phenomenal though. Not just the principals. Brad Dourif, Michael Rooker, Stephen Toblowsky...even early Kevin Dunn!
The Long Walk Home (1990)
The trailer shows practically the whole movie, which develops slowly, so that's a real shame. Here's a great scene that really gives an idea of the film though:
