Yesterday we got this ceremony, which especially during the last years tries to mimic the Academy Awards ceremony...
Many movies are - let's say - deeply italian, and probably won't be distributed abroad, but some years there are pretty good movies which get awarded.
The most "international" aspects were the Best Actress award given to Sophia Loren, for "The life ahead" (Netflix), and the Best Foreign Movie given to 1917.
Other "main" awards.
Best movie: "Volevo Nascondermi" (Hidden away), by Giorgio Dritti. Elio Germano plays famous and mentally-ill painter Antonio Ligabue.
Best director: Giorgio Dritti for "Hidden away".
Best new director: Pietro Castellitto for "I predatori" (The predators). A movie about families from different social backgrounds and very different political opinions.
Best original screenplay: Mattia Torre for "Figli" (Children). Torre died in 2019, so his daughter took the award. Pretty bittersweet moment.
Best actor: Elio Germano for "Hidden away".
Best supporting actress: Matilda de Angelis for "L'incredibile storia dell'Isola delle Rose" (Rose Island). A movie about the real story of Giorgio Rosa and the Republic of Rose Island, an artificial newborn country not far from the Emilia-Romagna coast (near Rimini), which was later occupied and destroyed by Italian police because it was not recognized by any country on the planet. Available on Netflix.
Best supporting actor: Fabrizio Bentivoglio for "Rose island". He plays Italy's Interior Minister.
