Sorry to all those who were hoping for the weekly release. Real life has really required fuller attention. This is the first time really getting to sit down at my computer in over a week to edit. I was able to finish the Skyfall episodes and will start rendering them this evening. I'll post as the episodes become available. I have a new respect for editors who take on a new presentation format such as a movie to tv and tv to movie. While these edits aren't the most involved in terms of requiring the addition of new skills, the preservation of the format and ensuring some kind of cohesion while also being episodic has really shifted my view and helped me better understand the whole first, second, third act of movies. Does this format enhance the Bond story? I don't know. It will be interesting to read other's thoughts which will ultimately guide my focus of either expanding the Bond films into a series and returning to the matrix tv show and Hobbit/LOTR tv show projects & ideas I had messed around with some time ago. Anyway, thanks to those who have shown interest in this edit and have sent messages of interest and encouragement. This edit will be for all of you :)

Does anyone know of a movie that has a scene where someone is holding onto someone else's hand and then they slip out of their grasp? With the release of NTTD being pushed back I figured I should delve in a bit to see if I can fix the glove scene. I'm looking for something that I can do some masking work on to fix the short scene where Bond is wearing gloves when he is trying to keep the assassin from falling.

Took a stab at making some small adjustments to take the visual emphasis away from his hands. Thoughts?

It's definitely an improvement. It does seem a bit quick, though, especially because of the motions being cut to/from. Is there any way you could extend the profile shot a bit, so the cut isn't timed so exactly with the motion and audio? I also think the shot after that may linger a bit, if only for a frame or two.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah the motion downward stalls for a bit too long. The cut to Severine also feels a bit too quick. I think if I spent some more time on the audio side of things and clipped a frame here and there it could smooth that out.

I actually filmed myself holding my own hand and doing the same loss of grip to see conceptually if it could fly. My camera is trash so I'd need a willing person to do it, but it could work by superimposing at a slightly larger size.

I've never liked that Bond uses women to get what he wants and needs. What does that mean for Skyfall? No shower scene with Severine and he doesn't allow Silva to kill her. How? Some clipping, cropping and masking to sell the idea that she's still alive. It's minor, but I think it makes his character more redeemable. Here's a before and after: The mask is at 1:55 that removes Severine's dead body hunched over as seen at 0:44

I am curious about this. It looks like you are cutting down some of the long-winded action sequences? I find the action sequences are a bit too much sometimes (like the parkour scene in the first episode).

Yes, this is the general approach I'm taking to the more over the top portions of the action scenes. I guess you could say that I'm trying to make James Bond more of an independent mission impossible style of spy.

Spent a couple hours on doing some color correcting tonight of Spectre. I've put the examples in the spoiler tag below. Left is original grade, right is re-grade. This movie's color grade is about as terrible as The Matrix, but instead of massive amounts of greens, there are massive amounts of yellows and blue/green. Kind of a nightmare of a movie to re-grade. The main idea is to make it less creamy looking, restoring whites to a more natural tone, eliminating as much of the teal Hollywood is obsessed with, and make the skin less yellow. I'm not completely happy with the re-grade yet and will be looking to get some more blues out of some of the earlier shots. Let me know what you all think.

Looks a lot more natural to the eye, Bond doesn't looks like a yellowish wax man anymore. The grading on the film is notoriously terrible and I'm glad you've fixed it. The original looked like someone pissed on the film print.

Thanks for the feedback Bobson. I started going over it again and decided that I'm going to try and preserve the gradient change, but saturate it a bit more to make it look more like Skyfall and the other entries as this one need to have a bit more continuity as a tv series.

With COVID-19 and being home more I thought I'd get more time to edit, but that has not been the case. I must say that I'm grateful to have a job during this time and hope those who are out of work are finding relief some how.

I did get some time tonight to mess around with a "previously on 007" idea that I've tried to ignore for each episode. It's going to add more time to the editing process, but I hope it will better sell the feel of a TV show with it included. I couldn't find Dame Judi Dench or Naomie Harris saying "previously" so I scoured the internet for a realistic text-to-speech British accent and ended up using this TTSMP3 to get the phrase. Here's the draft that will appear after the Warning and FE bumper.

That’s a really good job! I never realised how yellow Spectre actually was. Well done!

Tried to push myself this weekend to see if I could get this ready to release for this month. Just wrapped up narrative editing for Spectre. Finalizing color correction and then will be adding "previously on 007" segments for each episode. That will probably take the remainder of the upcoming week. So crossing fingers for June release.

The Previously Voice sounds perfect!!!  Wow!

However, to me, the "previously on 007" is too long and too slow.  Usually "previous" tags are much faster paced; shorter, tighter clips with more dramatic building music under them.  If you could take the same scene and cut it down by 20-30 seconds with appropriate music it would work better imo.  But I LOVE this whole concept.  Good stuff!!!

I completely agree. It's why I tried to put it off for so long. It's hard to make it flow and not sound like a garbled mess with all of the different places in the movie it's coming from. Perhaps if I cut straight from Bond with the phone to the last scene at the airport? I wanted to try and retain some semblance of the main plot points of the previous episode, but they do feel a bit long. ST Discovery had long ones like this, but their frenetic pace definitely was better.

Perhaps I'll go back and watch some more TNG and Gargoyles previously segments for some better inspiration. I appreciate the feedback Bob!

A focus of this edit series is to make Bond less of a womanizer. Like Casino Royale, Spectre presented a big dilemma in accomplishing this as a narrative plot point was delivered during one of these scenes. This is how I've addressed it in Spectre.

The behind the scenes for spectre really show off how much color work was done to this film. Surprisingly, the night time yellow scenes are pretty accurate, but everything else is just ugh... I don't know why Sam Mendes decided to do such a drastic color grade to the various locations. My anti blue obsession seems to be slightly off in terms of what the actual colors are, but I'll probably keep that approach for everything but the sky ;)
