What can a faneditor do with the latest Bond outing, Spectre? The film's production woes - particularly the troubled screenplay - were highly publicized due to the Sony hack leaks. Although one could polish the movie'€™s first 90 minutes, I don'€™t think the last act can be saved.

However, Spectre contains one standout sequence: the pre-titles adventure set against Mexico's Day of the Dead celebrations. So I'€™ve decided to use that part, along with some other scenes I found worth revisiting, to create a new James Bond short called The Dead Are Alive. The edit will also feature a custom gun barrel sequence based on Maurice Binder'€™s classic design.

Original film name:
Spectre
Fanedit name: 007: The Dead Are Alive

Original running time:
148 min
Fanedit running time: 17 min

Other sources: Spectre Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Thomas Newman), Vivaldi (Andreas Scholl, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra & Paul Dyer)

Synopsis: After a secret mission in Mexico City, James Bond has one more loose end to tie up.

The edit can be viewed below.

I'm currently doing colour correction, mainly to remove the film's sickly yellow tint.

Here are some comparisons (original on top; correction on bottom):

Nice regrading! Fiennes looks like a palid corpse in the original, when compared to your version :-D.

Good, I will never understand Sam Mendes obsession with the color yellow.

This sounds (and looks) mighty interesting! Your trailer alone is better than the huge disappointment I found in Spectre. Considering your take on Casino Royale, I eagerly await this! And, as everyone else has said, your re-grading is certainly an improvement.

Keep it up! :)

I hope you guys will enjoy the edit! I too found Spectre lacking.

I've rendered a rough preview copy of The Dead Are Alive and uploaded it to Vimeo -  it would be great if I could get at least one set of eyes on it. The  preview's video quality is quite terrible, but that's not what I'm  focusing on right now... I'm mainly looking for feedback on story structure and  audio levels.

If you're interested in providing feedback, shoot me a PM. :)

I'm currently working on the gun barrel sequence, which is the last piece of the puzzle... Should be done soon!

That gun barrel edit looks sweet. Which film did you take that from? The Mexico shot looks massively improved but a little on the pink side if I'm being picky. It just needed the very lightest highlights dialed into blue, so the sky and the tent thing aren't pink. Like this...

^ Your grade on right side, with bluer highlights on left. I probably made them too blue but you get the idea from this quick test.
