An awesome video marred by an abrupt cut to screeching dubstep making-of preview crap. If you make something great, give it a moment to breathe! Sheesh.  :-/
 
I found a plot hole in Episode 1 that I don't think I've heard anyone talk about. Tell me if you've caught this before.


Here's the setup:
So Qui Gon makes two bets with Watto. 1 Take my ship if Anakin loses/ I get my ship parts and you take the money if Anakin wins. 2 Take my pod racer if Sebulba wins/ Give me Anakin if Sebulba loses.
Before they agree, Qui Gon tries to leverage bet 2 into giving him both Anakin and his mother, but Watto says no pod racer is worth two slaves. But apparently a pod racer is worth one slave, hence the agreement.

After winning the race, Qui Gon gets to keep his ship and his pod racer, he gets free parts, and he gets Anakin. Watto gets to keep Anakin's mother, and he gets the winnings from the race (which is weird because he says he lost "everything").


Here's the plot hole:
After the race but before they leave, Anakin gives his mother the money from selling the pod racer. She thanks him but acts like it's no big deal. Is that not enough to buy her freedom? Wouldn't that be on top of your list of priorities? Stay with your son and not be a slave anymore?

She totally could have been free by the end of the film.

The second prequel film makes it even worse because it's like he just forgot she existed for ten years and he shows up right when she croaks.

Anyway, has anyone else caught this or am I wearing tin foil on my head? (Why can't it be a little of both?)

Didn't he also say he had been placing other bets on Sebulba's victory?  I guess that even with whatever money he got out of this arrangement, he still had a major net loss on his... claws?

Assuming my previous interpretation is correct, I guess Watto's new financial situation was such that he'd up the price on Shimi?   Maybe?

Yeah.  Even if you go by the "Jedi aren't allowed to interfere outside the Republic" or whatever reason they'd have for not sending some Knights to deal with the rampant slavery they uncovered, there's another huge gap there.  Padme.  At some point after her elected monarch term limit was up and before her Senate run, you'd think she might have gone back to Tatooine, expressed a little gratitude by saving her.

Plot-wise, the whole podracing scene made no sense. A Jedi Master and a Jedi Knight should be able to procure money in all kinds of ways in a lawless, gambling-heavy spaceport without needing to bet their remaining assets on some kid, no matter how many lice he has. :p

He definitely brought up the fact that the bet was convoluted. I don't think he brought up the fact that the characters procured enough money (not in the bet, but as a separate off-screen sale) to purchase Anakin's mom from slavery, thus freeing her and preventing the conception of the greatest villain in the galaxy. They wouldn't even have to change any lines. Just have her come with them.
 
Maybe when writing the scripts, Lucas was left confused and sleepy by large meals doused with sukaiwaka ranch.

A rather  famous character joins Rebels, and thus the new canon, for the first time:

Hm. Never thought of him having a British accent, despite the character's clear fictional inspiration. And I don't know if I'll ever even try the show. Still, this is... kinda cool, in a mild way, I guess?

I'm with you on this one. I liked Rebels okay and have never read EU stuff but this guy was everybody's favorite. It seems like this will make a ton of people happy, which is nice.
 
Isn't that Dash Rendar's Outrider at 1:08? I thought it would turn out to be him in the show after those 2 seconds.
I think this show will leave a lot of people wondering why Thrawn wasn't in the main conflicts after they see his prowess as an Admiral. Perhaps he'll make it into a Star Wars anthology movie.
