So I'm a Family Guy fan. (Sorry Frink) And I just recently got into American Dad. I had written it off (along with The Cleveland Show) as subpar knock-offs to cash in on the success of Family Guy (albeit knock-offs done by the people involved with Family Guy). A friend of mine recently said not to waste my time with The Cleveland Show but that American Dad is worth watching. So I finished the first season and am a few episodes into the 2nd season. The show is pretty good.

I have a question for those who are up to date on it. Is the golden turd side-plot, twilight zone-ish serial thing. Does that run throughout the whole series? If so, fan edit anyone :-o.

They've only done 3 or 4 of the Golden Turd side-plot thing, and they haven't completed it yet, so an edit would be impossible at this point. I have definitely thought about it though and as soon as they do finish it I would definitely be interested in trying my hand at an edit of it. Shouldn't be too hard. All you've got to do is join the segments together.

A little more info on The Golden Turd.

Sweet, thanks Frantic Canadian. I wanted to avoid looking it up and potentially spoiling it.

Really hits it's stride in season 4.

I've never seen a minute of this show, and yeah, I feel justified in that decision.

I gave The Cleveland Show five episodes before I gave up, not seeing even one episode of something is rather odd to me though.

Unless animation isn't your thing or you don't like Seth or course.

You have to look beyond the fact that theres a golden turd, its more of a spoof on Twilight Zone episodes IMO, and it just randomly occurs in episodes of American Dad. Its not supposed to be, "haha, theres a golden turd", thats not the actual funny part.

in my opinion, American Dad is getting far superior to Family Guy.
i was hoping The Cleveland Show was going to be one big joke.
in that different characters from the Family Guy universe kept getting swapped out for their own spinoff each show/season. first Cleveland, then he would get thrown back to Family Guy and Glenn would move out. then he would come back and Mayor West got his own show for some reason.
they could have completely banked on riffing the very idea of a spinoff.
and then Cleveland came back for season two and my hopes and dreams were dashed to bits.
(there are lagistics involved, i know, but we're talking about Seth "untouchable" MacFarlane here.)

Huh. I actually enjoy the Cleveland show more than the other two. It reminds me of the early (imo better) Family Guy seasons with a Cosby Show twist. American Dad was funny while Bush was in office.

I stopped watching The Cleveland Show when they changed its timeslot to 7:30, and it was always being pre-empted because the football game ran late or so they could have the post-game show. The cancelled The Cleveland Show now though so no more worries.

Arguably the best (so far) episode of American Dad might be Rapture's delight (season 6), it was also originally going to be for the American Dad Movie (and much longer), but things fell through

I actually really hated the "Rapture's Delight". Found it so boring and preachy as I recall. I'd have to watch it again though cause it's been a while.

That's a bit racialist, innit?

Have you seen the show?

I hope I'm not racist, and i don't think i am, no offense intended to anybody. But it's a fact there are not many shows on network television cast predominately with black actors. It's also a fact that both The Cleveland Show and The Cosby Show follow similar sitcom formula with realistic family problems as a source of drama rather than the ridiculous or exotic lengths that the other two McFarlane shows sometimes extend to. The two share a lot in common and i would bet money that was part of McFarlane's original pitch for it.
Anyway, like I said before, I like it much better than Family Guy or American Dad.

FWIW, it didn't seem racialist to me, but then again, I had to look up that word to see if it was real. ;)

Fair enough. For the record, I had to check if it was a real word too.

I love the post apocalyptic genre but this just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was too much of a stretch for American Dad, or maybe it was the preachy religious aspect, but I really hated it.
