Finally announcing this one as I had to pull it after a major error was highlighted.*

The original 'Revenge Of The Sith' was the only PT film that even vaguely worked for me, however there were still plenty of things that were not right. In this edit, I've added scenes at the beginning that make Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship more friendly and jovial (To throw the dark ending into sharp relief). All Padme's deleted scenes are restored so she is now more akin to the strong Senator character we saw in Episode I & II (With the added bonus that Bail has more screen time). She actually has a purpose in this edit, to plot against Palpatine's rise (Instead of just sitting in her apartment fretting). Her dialogue is also alot better now, more in character as the powerful Senator she is. I've reworked alot of the Palpatine, Padme and Anakin material in the middle act to make Anakin's decent more believable. You can now see Palpatine stoking his paranoia about his abilities and the Jedi council, while also pushing him to distrust Padme (Now with some justification). We can see that Palpatine is slowly isolating Anakin from everyone that cares about him.

I've made the usual trims to remove bad Digi-Doubles and upped the pace of the Duels in places. I've also seperated Yoda and Kenobi's duels with the sith. This gives Yoda's fight more power, as it no longer feels like a distraction from the main Kenobi vs Anakin thow down. Plus the emotonal 'landing-platform' scene now forms a natural breathing space for the audience between the Yoda fight and the final epic duel on Mustafar. Most importantly I have gone through and removed all references to Anakin being called Vader and you do not see him being put into the suit. Because I've created these FanEdits to be watched in Episode order by future young fans... who will still get a mighty surprise at the end of ESB, hurray! (Of course, the clever boys and girls might just work it out! ;-)).

(I'll include a seperate changelist below detailing everything)

Here is the cover for the forthcoming BR:

At the minute ROTS:Reborn is finished and available as a 4.5gb .*mkv file. This will be followed by standard DVD and a 25GB-BR.

Here is a clip of the kind of work I've done in the middle act via Vimeo...

This is the thrilling opening sequence with more fun and less R2 flying! (FYI I've since fixed the audio glitch at 4.33):

A compilation of all the material I cut or never added back (With a humorous text commentary):

This is an early re-cut of the finale with the Vader reveal still in (But with the idiotic Death Star footage replaced):

And here's a little bit of fun I made:

* Big thanks to Nerdman3000 for telling me that I'd messed up an hour and a quarter in. I'd removed 9 out of the 10 lines or scenes that reveal Vader but uploaded a version where Yoda still says "Consumed by Darth Vader". It kinda made all the other work a bit of a waste of time :-D

Yes. I find it constantly hilarious :p

^ oh no, not THIS again.... (HINT PEOPLE - PM THE EDITOR!!!!)

BACK TO THE TOPIC:

Congrats on your release TM2YC! Now your trilogy is now complete! :) (I wish I could work as quickly as you!)

I'm curious, since it isn't quite clear to me whether you have removed just the references to Darth Vader, or all footage that shows the creation of Darth Vader? (I'm assuming the latter, but just want to make sure) Do you just leave Anakin as assumed to be dead at the end of the fight with Obi-Wan and that's the last we see of him? If so, sound like an interesting approach, and more bold than many take to maintain the reveal. I think the most common way of trying to do this is to hide the fact that Padme's children are Luke and Leia.

I agree with your choice to separate out Yoda's battle; it works much better that way IMO. And I also think keeping Yoda's battle is a good choice, even though that's a controversy among fan editors.

Anyway, I will be interested in checking this one out, as IMO Episode III is by far the best of the PTs and with fan editing, can almost stand up with the OT (well, at least with an unedited ROTS..., again solely my opinion! ;-))

PS - Glad you are reinstating the Exile to Dagoba scene as well. The US DVD release only included it as a deleted scene. Interesting that they decided to integrate it into the UK DVD release. Either way, I think it's the one deleted scene that really needs to be included (for continuity with the OT).

EDIT (to not double post) -

I'm curious as to what's included on the bonus disc that you were able to use? I haven't watched it yet, but my experience with most of the deleted scenes from the first two episodes are that they are unusable since they are unfinished with green screens and stuff like that. (I personally think Lucas didn't include any completed deleted scenes to spite fan editors, especially not the ones from the DVDs.... but that's just my own personal opinion...)

Thanks but I've had some BIG technical issues with getting my edits submitted here. I've had all 3 Reborn films prety done for about 3 months now so with the problem out the way, the edits are coming thick and fast!:-D

I've either removed all mentions of Vader or if removal was impossible I've overdubbed "Lord Vader" with "My apprentice" (Couple of times I think). I've recut post combustion so we see Anakin thrash around less and he barely moves after Obi-Wan leaves, then Palpatine does not say "He's still alive" or see him crawl. The last we see is his body on the stretcher. It leaves it ambiguous, with the presumption on dead. All the stupid footage after that is gone showing him magically on a MK2 Star Destroyer looking at a nearly finished Death Star.

Also almost all of Padme's lines are removed post choke so she looks and sounds near death. She does not name the children. Removing Luke's name is not strictly neccasary since we meet him almost immediately in ANH (On the moisture farm) but I took it out anyway. Removing Leia's name makes it possible to guess she is Luke's sister but not easy. Bail Organa isn't mentioned as being from Alderaan in the PT and Leia isn't mentioned as having the last name of Organa in the OT. The only clue is if you connect the Rebel Blockade runner set from ROTS with the same set in ANH.

Seperated out is the only way. IMO you can't remove the climax of Yoda's character arc and not have him take a share in the danger. I wouldn't have shot it like that or probably even had him use a Sabre but at least now it feels like a real epic duel and not an unwelcome distraction to the main event.

It was a bonus on the UK disc too. Just something brits got at the cinema. I think Yoda has such a huge role in the PT that he deserves a proper send off. Plus I don't get the argument about it spoiling the Dagobah/Yoda reveal in ESB. If you watch the PT AT ALL you know who Yoda is anyway?!?! You can still laugh at Luke's misunderstanding.

It varies. On the DVD of TPM they went all out finishing the deleted scenes but on AOTC and ROTS they aren't as polished. The drop in quality of the backdrops is there but not alarmingly so. And the quality of the deleted material is so good that it has to be used. Most of the ROTS BR deleted material is just animatics but some of it like the extended Office scene I've used (The one where Palpatine appoints Anakin to the council) was just usable once I properly cropped it and dubbed over some sinister music. The Coruscant backdrop in that scene isn't amazing looking but the dialogue and character is fantastic. It changes the whole tone of the picture for me, making Palpatine more evil and Anakin more sympathetic. Palpatine is bad/corrupt from the beginning in this edit. But hopefully you just think he's gone bad in a Stalin way and not a Sauron way (Until the opera scene at least).

Cool, thanks for the explanations!

I'm intrigued by your approach with this one, and look forward to viewing it!

PS - Just noticed your sig; nice work-around to the 5 line limit. ;-)

EDIT - PPS - when I asked about the bonus disc, I meant the BD disc (I already know about the DVD stuff, all of the deleted scenes on those are usable, like you said). Again, thanks for the explanation on that and my other questions!

BD wise there is very little usable deleted material. It's mostly animatics. Like they swept up a load of off-cuts from the metaphorical bin. Two brief sequences are usuable on the ROTS Blu-Ray. There is nothing useable on the TPM and AOTC disc.

Most annoying bit is an rough animatic of Yoda talking to Qui-Gon while meditating on the '2001-moonbase'. Sadly it's just a temp track and not Liam Neeson. Otherwise I'd have used it in a flash.
