New titles for this week.

52045 Ghostbusters: Afterlife
52440 Fatherhood
53026 Every Breath You Take
53067 Songs Of Solomon
53091 The Nation Of Butterflies
53092 Send It!
53093 Last Call

2nd consecutive small bulletin (5 out of 7 this year). It's been 7 weeks into the year and still have no G rated films...

Glad to get at least one of the missing early 52,000's. With the two we got this week that now leaves us with 75 missing numbers from the 52,000's.

Waiting patiently for #52044 and #53000. Lol

I just checked AFI, the 1955 film The Man with the Golden Arm is #20011 instead of #17011, accepting the fact that the film was approved in 1961. It was rejected by the PCA for some reasons. I was so late in the game.

In fact, #17011 was taken by the 11th chapter of the 1954 serial Riding with Buffalo Bill.

New titles for this week.

53007 The Starling
53053 Army Of The Dead
53056 The Misfits
53088 The Girl Who Believes In Miracles
53101 Initiation
53102 Vanquish

3rd consecutive small bulletin (6 of 8) now. Too many small ones for this year and I fear there will be another significant decrease in overall number of films at end of year (which is characterized by more than 8% decrease from previous year).

To me, the comparison between the current year (2021) and the previous year (2020) is rather disappointing. It shows a significant decrease of 26.47% from the previous year. Here's my scoreboard for the first 8 weeks of the year (1 rated film = 1 point, 1 re-rated film = 0.5).

So far, the high score for this year is 13 titles (12.5 points due to a re-rated one, 19 in previous year).

Well, this sucks. I'm going through the PG-13 rated films for 1984 and there should be 25 but for some reason the third page is showing up blank. There's 10 entries per page and the second page ends with Red Dawn. I've checked the IMDB for films released that year, set them alphabetically from Z-A, and still only managed to come up with three of the missing five. The ones I managed to find are The River, Runaway, and The Woman In Red.

What about these two? PG-13 1984

Thanks! Apparently I already had "The Sure Thing" but I did not have "Splitz". So with those two, and the three I previously found, 1984 PG-13 is now complete.

I'm going to put the contributions for numbers 1 to nearly 22,000 (PCA films) and NR films on hold until the complete database of MPA numbers is available online, which is unlikely to happen. For the time being, I'll be focusing on rated films.

This week, 12 new titles come out, with the highest number being 53,114. Finally, after 9 weeks, we have at least a G-rated film for this year. About the numbers, the rating system has reached a new low, with 75 titles in a period of 9 weeks.

Can we use chat for further discussion about film numbers and how to find them, especially in PCA/NR films?

New numbers this week:

52875 Dog
52968 The United States Vs. Billie Holiday

53052 Zack Snyder’s Justice League (Justice Is Gray Edition)
53055 Miss Willoughby And The Haunted Bookshop
53063 Diana: The Musical

53105 Salvatore: Shoemaker Of Dreams
53106 The Duke
53107 The Eyes Of Tammy Faye
53110 Four Good Days
53111 Summertime
53113 Joey & Ella
53114 Felix And The Hidden Treasure

I just noticed something interesting while adding these to my personal list. Number 53052 was already given to Zack Snyder's Justice League. So, does this mean that both version of the movie have been given the same number or is this just an update and this version will only be available in black and white?

The B&W version is not even marked as edited version, so the same number is assigned.

It wouldn't be if all they did was turn it black and white. They did the same with Mad Max: Fury Road. A black and white version was released of that film but they didn't list that one with the same number on filmratings. There's only one listing on filmratings for that film and it's the original theatrical cut so I don't know why they're doing it now with this film.

Without checking my list first I'm going to say that I don't have any of those. Most of them sound to be westerns and I'm not a big western fan so if their numbers weren't listed online I wouldn't have seen those movies in order to get the numbers. I've got a couple of budget label DVD's that contain five Blondie movies each but neither of those discs contain the two movies listed above. As for legit streaming services? I've got Netflix, Tubi, and Amazon Prime. Netflix definitely wouldn't have anything that old. Tubi, I doubt. Amazon Prime is a possibility, though. I do have several classic movie channels on my Roku so I'll take a look and see if any of them have any of the movies you listed above and I'll get back to you. I really wish TCM had their own streaming service.

TBH, these aforementioned titles are not on the original list that was last updated over a decade ago, there will be more missed out ones, especially from the 1950s and 1960s. I spotted some dozens of missed out titles using the Ctrl+F key. I've got no other streaming sites than Netflix too, and TCM was shut down in my country over two years ago.

The only movie that I could find on the classic movie channels I have on my Roku is "Blondie's Big Deal" (1949) but there was no number listed. Not even an MPPDA logo.

The film might be using the other version (TV print) of its opening titles. It is because King Features took over the whole film series and released to television, so the original titles were scrapped. The original opening titles have a number.

That could explain it. Watching the opening credits they had a very TV show vibe to them. Being that the original credits were scraped that could make it hard to track down a copy of any of them that have the original credits intact.

New titles for this week.

53057 Cruella
53089 American Eid (short)
53090 Let's Be Tigers (short)
53108 Catch The Bullet
53128 Mary J Blige’s My Life
53129 Monday
53130 New Order
53131 In The Earth
53135 Mainstream

Now stands at 96 films as of the 11th week. At the rate, expect 445 films, more or less, at the end of the year. If the final yearly count is less than 500 in two consecutive years, which won't happen until the end of 2022, I'll give up contributing my film numbers list, probably for good, and I'll start creating CNC film numbers list instead.

CNC, which is based in France, has its own complete number database and other details, unlike FilmRatings or MPA. That numbering scheme has at least 153,000 approved films, which is nearly 100,000 more than the MPA, and includes classic films (before 1970s).

When you're done with the French, you can do EIRIN next.

I'll give you the Jap numbers I've compiled from onscreen credits so far, to get you started:

86403 Tenkû no shiro Rapyuta (Castle in the Sky Laputa). Hayao Miyazaki.
111272 Kaze no tani no Naushika (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind). Hayao Miyazaki.
112182 Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro). Hayao Miyazaki.
112483 Hotaru no haka (Grave of the Fireflies). Isao Takahata.
112836 Majo no takkyûbin (Kiki's Delivery Service). Hayao Miyazaki.
113353 Omohide poro poro (Only Yesterday). Isao Takahata.
113745 Kurenai no buta (Porco Rosso). Hayao Miyazaki.
114169 Heisei tanuki gassen ponpoko (Pompoko: The Raccoon War). Isao Takahata.
114426 Mimi wo sumaseba (Whisper of the Heart). Yoshifumi Kondô.
115183 Pâfekuto burû (Perfect Blue). Satoshi Kon.
117576 Papurika (Paprika). Satoshi Kon.
118992 Tôkyô kazoku (Tokyo Family). Yôji Yamada.
119221 Ookami kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children). Mamoru Hosoda.
119576 Chiisai ouchi (The Little House). Yôji Yamada.
120186 Bakemono no ko (The Boy and the Beast). Mamoru Hosoda.
120564 Mugen no jûnin (Blade of the Immortal). Takashi Miike.
120612 Shin Gojira (New Godzilla). Hideaki Anno & Shinji Higuchi.
120735 Kimi no na wa (Your Name.). Makoto Shinkai.

They even have a website:

but it's inaccesible from outside Japan. I've entered with a VPN and it has a wonderfully functional search engine, including the possibility of searching by EIRIN number.

The problem is, only from 2009 to the present. This means the first 110,000 numbers are not searchable, but the rest up to the present can be easily extracted. It seems foreign movies have a different numbering though, the latest ones numbered in the 48,000 range., and then there's another set of numbers that start with a letter S and have 4 digits, which I don't quite get... in any event, it seems they rate every-freaking-thing by decree.

I think I'll go back to the good old MPA number mysteries before I get too deep in the EIRIN rabbithole.

Well, the EIRIN, which is based in Japan, and FilmRatings, have constraints when it comes to searching. That Japanese numbering scheme limits only to films from 2009 and later, while in FilmRatings, it limits only to rated films. The CNC has no constraints, so it's possible to make the list 100% complete, excluding missed out numbers.

I really wished for long time that one day in the future, either FilmRatings or MPA will have its own complete number database, which includes PCA/NR films, especially searchable by number.
