Millions of people are watching this news. This is the first time I've seen an actual date promised - January 19, 2013. This is what the website says now:

How the new Mega will work

Easy Privacy

In the past, securely storing and transferring confidential information required the installation of dedicated software. The new Mega encrypts and decrypts your data transparently in your browser, on the fly. You hold the keys to what you store in the cloud, not us.

Online Mega Manager

Before, you had to install the Mega Manager on every computer you used Megaupload from. Now, high-speed parallel batch uploading and downloading with resume capability are integral parts of the Mega website.

Live Global Cloud File System

Before, you had to create and update file folders manually. Now, you have a true cloud file system at your fingertips, including cross-account folder sharing for easy online collaboration. You can even access your cloud drive as a file system mount or drive letter!

Multi-centric data warehousing

Before, we operated only a handful of storage nodes located in expensive premium data centers. Now, thanks to encryption, we can connect a large number of hosting partners around the world without worrying about privacy breaches. Our servers will be closer to our customers. This will result in faster data transfers.

Also if you didn't see this feature about Kim Dotcom, it is epic. Inside the Mansion—and Mind— of Kim Dotcom, the Most Wanted Man on the Net. Most interesting trivia: Kim took his nickname from the character of Richard Kimball, hero of The Fugitive.

The guy as a sense of humor. His launch party event had a fake raid with helicopters marked FBI.

Sometimes good things come out of terrible events," Kim told the gathered audience of a few hundred people. "If it wasnt for a giant comet hitting the Earth, we would still be surrounded by angry dinosaurs—hungry, too!" Kim smiled. "And if it wasn't for the raid, we wouldn't have Mega."

I wonder if MegaMovie will allow user contributions.

When I think about the amount of time I have wasted the past couple of years screwing around with various file locker companies trying to download and upload and get dumbass programs like jdownloader to work, which now wants me to type in verification words for every file I download... I have zero interest in a new Megaupload, and I would suggest that maybe you shouldn't either. That is way too high profile. That dude is way too "I'm Rick James Bitch"-style crazy. And I value my time far too much.

Concur. Fuck file lockers, especially ones owned by that dude. Viva la newsgroup!

I know everyone is doubting, but I think he learned from his experience. The new mega encrypts content BEFORE you upload it, so mega never knows what files are stored. You distribute keys to people who want to download your files. It gives them full immunity, because the government can't claim they know what's going on. They get to stay fully oblivious. I understand it's a business but I still think it'll be worth trying once. He is trying to raise the bar and be the gold filelocker standard. As far as specs and limits go, I think they are onto something.
