Internet Fanedit Database (IFDB) Announcement
#11
TomH1138 Wrote:1) Will this page have a Top 100 listing or something like that? I'm a sucker for lists. Of course, the listing would have to take into account when fan edits just have a couple of reviews. For instance, Transformers: Attack of the Score has two ratings at a perfect 10 apiece, but I doubt that anyone (including TMBTM) would consider it a more widely acclaimed edit than Adywan's Ep. IV Revisited.

Yes. We will have a pre-defined link (i.e. Top Fanedits) that will list the most popular, highest, rated, etc. What we don't have pre-defined you should be able to do on your own.

Quote:2) Will the site be a general site for listing all fan edits, even ones not submitted to FE.org, or is it simply an extension of FE.org and approved edits on it? In particular, I'm thinking of Red Letter Media. RLM submitted Ep. I and II reviews for approval to this site, but (last I saw) not their reviews for Ep. III or Indy 4. I would very much like to rate them and include them.

While it will primarily be for faneditors to submit their work the admin do reserve the right to add edits not submitted by an editor. While I doubt it will happen often (or at all) we want the option available to us.

Quote:3) If the answer to #2 is yes, then that might put quite a bit of strain on the webmasters (which is a reason that the answer might be no). Is it possible that members who have been around for a while could eventually be allowed to access the site and add edits themselves, in a format similar to a wiki?

An interesting idea, and one we haven't discussed. The main problem with this is that if you submit someone else'a work then you won't be able to review and rate it. It would be better to inform an administrator of an edit so that we can evaluate it for inclusion.

Currently there are "Most Popular Fanedits" and "Top Rated Fanedits". I'm not sure there will be the same amount of lists that we have now.

If none of these ideas are workable, that's fine. These are just thoughts that popped into my head. Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to the new site!

Right now we're listing edits already listed at Fanedit.org. See here, here and here. If it was already listed here, it'll be listed there. Re: edits by other people - RLM, Jambe, Raising Cain Re-Cut, etc., the editors can surely submit them to IFDB. Q2 says: "While it will primarily be for faneditors to submit their work the admin do reserve the right to add edits not submitted by an editor. While I doubt it will happen often (or at all) we want the option available to us."

Transformers: Attack Of The Score was done by BlueYoda, not TMBTM.

My guess would be that it's only for edits that have been approved for FE.org. And weren't the RedLetterMedia reviews of Ep. 1 and 2 just YouTube conversions done by a member here? And why were movie review DVD's allowed on a fan edit site? I ask this never having seen any of RedLetterMedia's work.
Completed Edits:
Zack And Miri Make A Porno: Extended Workprint Edition / Repo Men - The Reality...It's A Bitch! Edition / The Haunted World Of Katie Featherston / Haunted From Childhood: The Katie Featherston Story

Hopefully this all will be a lot more automated (fingers crossed) for the admin's sake as well as faneditor's sake? In terms of top lists auto-updating, genre lists, all edits by an individual fan editor, all edits of a specific movie, etc? Some of this stuff still isn't accurate for me with current setup.

It sounds like there will be a way to search the original name of a movie and have all edits of that movie be listed? And that list will be auto-updated when a new edit is submitted?? I hope I hope I hope.
Projects Completed:
Matrix Revolutions - The Epic Edition
The Two Towers Rebuilt

Projects truly In the Works:
Star Trek (2009): Gem Edition

Projects kinda sorta conceptually In The Works:
Riddick: The Chronicles
Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi
Who Watches The Watchmen

On the page for each edit, the field "Original Movie Title" is a clickable link, with all the titles saved in the search database. When users submit an edit that field will suggest titles that already exist. If the title is there, the editor chooses that title. Then yes, new edits will be auto-updated to the search for that movie.

Yes. Most of this is automated.

Will edits that are part of a trilogy/set have links to the other edits in the trilogy?

Also, possibly there could be overall trilogy pages with ratings as well. It would be nice to compare ratings of full Star Wars trilogies, as an alternative to the individual pages for each edit.

This is something L8wrtr and I have been discussing. We want to make it so.
