Wow, I love everything in that article. Great to see Adywan's work getting representation, and all of the other things mentioned in that article are great examples of the value of fan-related content.

The only thing I disagree with in the commentary about Adywan's version is "that a lot of his changes would make the Internet just as mad as Lucas' if they had come from him." Actually, no. He doesn't change the plot or make characters do stupid things or make characters look freaky. Most of the changes are unnoticeable until they're pointed out, and the ones that are, are improvements.

Adywan did what George Lucas claimed that he was going to do, but didn't actually do. Lucas claimed that he was simply going to touch up the effects. Instead, he made Han a wimp by not shooting first, Darth Vader a moron by adding in that "NOOOOO!" and gave pupils to Ewoks, something that no fan asked for, ever. If the issue was technology of the time, was James Earl Jones incapable of saying "No" in 1983? Who would even think of changing the Ewoks' eyes even as a joke?

Meanwhile, what fan would complain about the removal of bushes, or the fixing of that bizarre wolf hand, or the addition of Chewie's medal? These are all great changes and exactly the kind of thing that George Lucas should be actually fixing.

Very excited that more people are swelling into the ranks, though I would say... I'm a bit leery of the widespread attention. I swear, if Lucasfilm shuts down ESB:R after we've waited for years... :-(

Oh, wow. So, do these people just hate any changes, or are George's changes the only ones that are OK with them?

Seeing as how Ady isn't forcing anyone to accept his version - he's not charging money and he's not putting it out as the definitive version; you have to really go out of your way to get a copy - these people are deeply disturbed and wrong. They need to be (more) heavily medicated and perhaps institutionalized for life!

When the "Nooooo!" in RotJ was first released, some people thought it was an Internet hoax. I said that it couldn't be, because what Star Wars fan would ever even think of that, joke or not? It was a moment that was so completely unneeded or asked for.

Just to add, don't you think you went a bit over the top with the changes? Surely the mistakes - if you want to call them that - are part of the original version or even the 1990s CGI improved version? If you're actually changing scenes, adding new effects then that is a bit wrong as the film wasn't meant to look the way you think it's meant to look. I can understand colour grading alterations and sound improvement but actually changing scenes to suit your vision of how Star Wars should be is, with respect, wrong. Having said that, you're clearly a huge Star Wars fan but even huge fans should respect the original version and not seek to make endless changes to to it. I'm not quite sure what the point of this edit is except to show how skilled you are with editing software!

If Adywan would have had access to never before seen footage, then I might have wanted to download this. But morons starting to edit what pros already have perfected, belong in psychiatric ward, diagnosed as being infant megalomanic.


If you were into porn instead, I´ll bet you would fanedit "Deep Throat" thus relieving Linda Lovelace from her duties and you yourself replacing her. But that movie !!!, I would not download either...


But I should say, I do NOT doubt the skills you people possess, dealing in theese strange genres. It´s not very easy editing even your own footage... Why don´t you try and shoot your own movie instead? New stuff I like!!! But not people trying to become from what others performed.

Wabid, those comments are great examples of the "You can't please everyone" adage, especially when it comes to Star Wars fanedits.

10000 member clip by esbr revisited

I really think FanEdits are going to be something huge. I know a lot of them have been done and a lot more coverage is coming this way, but everyone I talk to still doesn't know about them. I think it could become a branch off of the Indie chain. Maybe studios will even add them in on their BlueRays as special features someday? I hope so. It is a great way to enjoy a movie more than once.
