007 Skyfall [2012]

Looks like it will be a visual treat, as expected with Deakins.

I creamed my pants... I warned you!

Wow, will they actually manage another good Bond movie before yet another reboot? Looks promising...

Sieruously, who picks the names for these movies.

sounds like they are just throwing words together at this point lol

Bardem looks to be treading a fine line between Mads Mikkelsen creepy/dangerous villain and classic "damaged" Bond villain, and Ben Whishaw looks to be a good Q (as well as providing a nice Sidney/XXXX from Layer Cake reunion). The train leap stunt looks a bit fake at the moment, but Craig adjusting his suit as he lands seems very classic Bond. And they're bringing back the DB5. I'm encouraged.

And was that Moneypenny shaving James? Could be an interesting twist to that relationship...

Also, while it's great to see Judi Dench return as M, I can't help feeling for her, as I did when I saw Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, because she is rapidly losing her sight. It's a testament to how great she is that she can still turn in great performances when she can often no longer read the script.

Really? How sad.

Trailer looks great. Really hoping this one returns to the quality of Casino Royale and leaves the bitter taste of QOS far behind...

Javier Bardem looks like a vampire out of an Anne Rice novel IMO.

Can't wait for this. Craig's my favourite Bond and CR/QOS are my favourite entries in the series. I enjoyed a couple of the books but I've just never been a huge fan of the original movies, I find them too silly and Bond's womanising comes across as a bit sleazy. I really like the darker and more complex style of the reboots. QOS is hugely underrated, and I pretty much put it down to the editing. It is the most character-driven entry in the franchise and this fact alone gives it more substance and depth than any previous Bond film. I did rewatch Goldeneye yesterday and I enjoyed that more than the last time I saw it; I've always felt there's not much to it, but it has a great 90's action movie vibe, a good cast, one of the best 'Bond girls' and was Brosnon's finest hour - all downhill after that I'm afraid.

So anyway, yes, excited. *waves a flag*

Goldfinger?

Really? I last watched it a year ago and I don't recall that being the case. I guess he seeks revenge over the death of the gold-coated woman (as homaged in QOS) but I remember it more for it's OTT villain than it's story or character arc. Pussy Galore changes sides I guess, after Bond effectively rapes her in that oh-so-acceptable 60's male kinda way. It certainly isn't shot from an emotive first person POV in the way QOS is, every scene reflects Bond's state of mind and his move from anger to acceptance, from reckless rage to self control. I recall GF being more of a cartoony Bond film with larger than life characters, silly villains and an action-orientated climax. But maybe I need to rewatch it. :p

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is probably the most character driven story in the franchise. Bond goes through so much in that film and if Lazenby was a more capable actor, that could be remembered as a classic film, not just a classic Bond. Quantum had some interesting ideas, but its just action scene after action scene with a few moments of Bond acting mopey about Vesper.

Its really a same, both Diamonds Are Forever and Quantum of Solace should have been kick ass revenge movies where Bond is driven by grief and is taken to the limits. Sadly, in DAF its as if nothing happened in the previous film and in QOS the resolution to the Vesper story is more a bookend to the story than any actual driving point.

So no one agrees with me that in the trailer Javier Bardem looks like a character out of Interview with the Vampire?

Correct. Nobody agrees.

I'm starting to get really pumped for this. Some reviews are out, and they're all extremely positive. RT counts 11 reviews right now, but I've also seen additional reviews from Total Film and IGN, who give it 5/5 stars and call it the best ever Bond film, respectively.

I think it'll be good.

well it is also under close surveillance of award-coverage sites just because of the talents involved, acting, directing, cinematography, editing:

…Academy Award winning director
…Oscar winning and three-time nominated actor
…Oscar winning actress and six-time nominee
…five-time Oscar nominated actor
…two-time Oscar nominated acting legend in a supporting role
…noted screenwriter who is a three-time screenplay nominee
…cinematographer who is a nine-time nominee (and who everyone assumes has already won)
…10-time nominated composer
…Oscar winning production designer
…art director who is a four-time nominee
…Oscar winning second unit director
…and a leading man who is seen as "deserving" of landing an Oscar nomination (someday soon, at least)

I'd be shocked if Adele doesn't win. I'd also hope Deakins gets nominated as the film just looks like a visual treat but we'll have to wait and see. I wouldn't get my hopes up about anything else though.
