If Shout Factory posted that trailer, they'll be distributing the doc on disc too?  I've got to see this, but having not watched every episode of DS9, probably won't appreciate it as much as I should.

Yes.

Hopefully if sales are high enough, greedy CBS/Paramount will reconsider remastering/re-releasing the entire series on Blu ray as they did with TNG.

I've been listening to a podcast called Rewatchability lately, which is - hold on to your butts - yet another middling show in which a handful of 30-something white dudes talk mainly about movies they saw as youngsters, and drive each other to hearty guffaws by making the most obvious jokes/references possible as often as (if not more than) even trying to come up with intelligent thoughts/observations on the topic at hand. It's not a great podcast, is what I'm saying, but it passes the time.

Anyhow, as a guy whose favorite Trek movie is Generations, wonky uniforms and all, I fired up that episode, dreading the usual savaging the movie usually gets... but, lo and behold, the talkers all really liked it, and, while not overflowing with astute observations, had some smart things to say about it! Unlike old Half in the Bag episodes, this isn't a review I'll ever revisit, but if listening to some Canadians (and one Yank) talk up the greatest movie ever made starring both Patrick Stewart and The Shatner sounds like a good time to ya, well, the link's above.

To help shake off some of the confusion/frustration I had with the DISCOVERY season two finale,
I watched the EXTENDED CUT of NexGen's "Measure of a Man".

While I have had NexGen on Blu ray for a couple of years now, I have barely watched any of the bonus material, so this was a wonderful experience.

The extended cut is about 13 minutes longer than the original aired version, featuring some nice character beats.  It has of course been all remaster HD and looks gorgeous.

The additional material only enhances and empowers this brilliant episode to greater heights.  I can easily say this is for me the BEST single episode of the entire Next Generation run and a perfect encapsulation of what Star Trek is, can and should be.

Was the Discovery finale no good?  I've been hearing good things about Captain Pike on that show.

My feelings are mixed.

I post weekly semi-spoiler free reviews/thoughts in the Discovery thread in the tv section if you are interested.

Easily the best. This final scene always has me welling up. "That action, injured you and saved me. I will not forget it" is so profound:

(slightly spoiled by the end credits upside-down Motion Picture "look how cheap and lazy we are" model shot :D )

I too watched an episode of the OS as a palette cleanser, 'Miri'. The Discovery finale was rammed with expensive looking CGI fireworks and action, where as 'Miri' is a cheap looking knockoff filmed on the studio backlot, with zero effort to dress it to look like an alien planet... but I'll take the intelligent thought provoking concept, superior writing and dramatic charactersations of 'Miri' any day.

Good for a laugh. An RLM supercut of every time Jay has wearily looked into the camera, mostly when Mike somehow manages to bring every discussion around to Star Trek :D :

I've been trying to decide if I want to drop the money on a Blu-ray set of TNG when I already have the whole series on DVD but an extended edition of my favorite episode is almost worth the price alone.

The picture quality upgrade is also massive. They intensively remastered the series from the original film elements, even digitally recompositing shots that had originally been shot on film but composited on videotape.

Yeah, it's gorgeous. It's too bad DS9 and VOY won't be getting the same treatment. I'm looking forward to seeing a little bit of upgraded effects in the upcoming What We Left Behind documentary.

STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE:  WHAT WE LEFT BEHIND DOCUMENTARY

http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8qtR5psxb4&feature=youtu.be[/video]

Watched last night.

Now I have watched many, many, many Star Trek docs over the decades, and this is easily one of the most enjoyable ones I have had the pleasure to view.  The makers take a fresh approach, so it is not simply 'talking heads' the entire time.... but I will not divulge anything except that from the very opening  sequence is unexpected, quirky, sweet, hilarious and completely and uniquely DS9.   I pretty much smiled through the whole doc.

The interviews are interesting and insightful.  The Writer's Room, where they break down the first episode for Season Eight, is very enjoyable -- I now totally want to see that episode!!!   And the HD remastering of the original DS9 footage, lives up to high standard set by previous remastering of TOS and TNG, and is orgasmically gorgeous!  Come on CBS/Paramount!!!  Remaster this epic already!!!  lol

My only nitpick is the documentary could have been and should have longer.  Much longer.  So much did not even get discussed or mentioned.  Though my understanding is lots was cut for running time and may be included on the Blu Ray as Bonus Material.

Fantastically fun and fresh.   Highly recommended.

The Orville wrapped up season two last week... I found it to be a very fun ride.

It is sort like a warm, comfy, safe blanket.... It is 90's style Star Trek.... suddenly I am in my twenties again...lol

While I don't know if I would buy the series, I would seriously consider purchasing the series music soundtrack as it is brilliant.  So many amazing epic riffs of Trek, Star Wars and other sci-fi classics.  In fact, it would probably make an excellent resource for fan editing.
