A recent promotional Blu-ray flyer from 20th Century Fox prominently features H.R.Giger's creature jumping menacingly at the reader, atop the caption "Alien Anthology Coming to Blu-ray Christmas 2010." The specific use of the word "Anthology" raises the possibility that this BD collection could include not only the "Quadrilogy" movies, but also Alien vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator Requiem.
I doubt it will contain the AvP films but if so, I already own them on Blu - not going to recoup any $ by reselling those turds :x

now we just need Star Wars, Indy and (I need) the Abyss :)

For some reason I thought they already WERE on blu-ray.

That's great news, elbarto! Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't know these were due.

 I "need" these too, including the Abyss - director's cut - and Last of the Mohicans, so we can finally have a decent transfer of that too.

We also need the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Extended versions.

thirded on the Abyss, i nearly cried when i finally slipped the disc into the player :(

aren't there HDTV versions of Aliens and Raiders knocking around?

Yes even DTheatre versions of aliens too.

To follow after theatrical.

I believe The Abyss rumored to be released in the second half of this year. One of my favorites... probably Cameron's best.

I completely agree!

I cant find em, wish I could!

I doubt that there is any way to make Aliens look good in terms of picture quality (first Predator also by the way). It looks bad, really BAD when compared to Alien, A3 or A:R, and it is not because of poor DVD transfer but it just looks that way - even Cameron admits that he has used not the best film for this, and picture is very grainy and not that sharp as it could (and should) be.

And about The Abyss - looks like everybody need it :)

and Last of the Mohicans, so we can finally have a decent transfer of that too.

What is wrong with transfer on Mohicans? I've been watching it half a year ago on 32" (R2 DVD theatrical/anamorphic) and picture quality is very good.

I'll still take an HD Aliens over the DVD - you compare it to Predator because they both suffer similar heavy grain due to filmstock (I agree) however, the bluray of Predator is still the best the film has ever looked and thats good enough for me.

damn that 80's filmstock - its funny Predator 2 on Blu looks amazing by comparison.

I beg to differ. The picture quality is pretty lousy on my UK copy. The transfer doesn't meet the sides of the screen on exact scan. There are color fluctuations in the scene where Hawkeye says that some day he and the Major are going to have a serious disagreement. The colors look rather drab in many of the darker/indoor scenes: compare the colors to those on the R1 DTS version, which look far better. The R1 disc is the director's cut though, and while the transfer is much much better, it still doesnt quite meet the side of the screen on the right (a minor niggle, really) and the color timing looks a little off in a few of the outdoor scenes. Overall though it hints at what the theatrical cut could look like.

Do you have the French disc? I still wonder what the Australian disc is like, but I don't suppose it looks much better.

I'm still waiting for a decent transfer of the theatrical version. This film really needs a good restoration IMO.

Braveheart needed restoration desperately (and got it), but in case of The last of The Mohicans - for me it is good enough, I doubt that I will buy this movie again unless they give us another version (longer but not this so called director's cut which I'd like to call Butcher's Cut :p) or some nice extras. (i have polish edition which is probably identical to spanish cause there is spanish audio on it).

Well, all I can say is that I am glad you are satisfied, but I'm not. I agree with you in liking the theatrical cut more - although the director's cut had some good extra material, it just took things out that should have been left in - but I want a good quality copy of the theatrical cut.

To show you what I mean, here are screenshots of both. The R2 (UK) theatrical is on the top, and the R1 director's is on the bottom.

Update from The Digital Bits:
And finally, consider this Rumor Mill worthy, but there's been some concern about Fox's Alien Anthology Blu-ray box set. Specifically, people there are stories flying around the InterWebs to the effect that the set will include not only the four previous Alien films, but also the two Alien vs. Predator films as well. Not so. Our Magic 8 Ball says it's just the four classic Alien films. So feel free to rest easy... or freak out... as you will. But plan accordingly.

I bought the Alien Quadtrilogy DVD set several years ago. Great set. The only disappointment was that I was missing some stuff:
- an Alien deleted scene
- the Alien3 workprint (the Assembly cut is still missing a lot of filmed footage) or the deleted scenes separately.
- Aliens Burke cocoon scene; however this was said to be lost or destroyed so this footage would never see the light of day. However, to my surprise I see this footage is suddenly included in the Bluray set (see disc 6 - Deleted Scene: Burke Cocooned). WTF?! Is this another way to screw DVD owners into trying to turn them over to start buying Blurays?

Perhaps the footage has simply been found. You posted the idea that DVD owners are short-changed when it comes to extras in the Blu-ray boycott thread too, and I really have to disagee. In fact, a number of Blu-ray releases do not port over the DVD extras.

Examples:
The new Spartacus BD lacks all the extras from the Criterion Collection DVD.
Robocop BD lacks the DVD extas.
The first Predator release lacked the CE DVD extras, so I do not have those :-(. (They have now put them on the Ultimate Hunter Edition release, but I am not buying the film again because the new transfer is awful.)
Commando lacks the DVD extras.
Se7en lacks the DVD extras... and so on.

Which extras are included seems to be the decision of the studio rather than a BD vs DVD issue. Releases of Ridley Scott films on DVD seem to me to bend over backwads to include as many extras as possible. Remember the five-disc Blade Runner set that was virtually identical on HD DVD, BD and DVD?

Terminator Salvation Director's Cut is only available on Bluray (except for some very exclusive Target region 1 release). Clash of the Titans Bluray gets an exclusive Alternate Ending that the DVD won't have. Iron Man 2 Bluray will a lot of additional stuff on Bluray that the 2disc version won't have. etc etc.

yeah, I as DVD owner feel screwed.

Well, I have bought many Blu-ray releases that lack DVD extras. It is down to studios. It is also common for releases in one region to have featues that are not on those of another region. This is not simply the Blu-ray versus DVD issue that you are presenting it as.

No way  A friend of mine told me he saw this on tv or something, i said he probably just visualized it from the book, cause it (from what i'v read) never saw the light of day. I sure hope that scene still has some quality left in it to speak of...
