The A-Team

fuck me.
I knew this day would come.

I want to be excited but it looks more like GIJoe.
A-team was always grounded, realistic - this looks too far over the top for me.

I guess its just MacGyver that is waiting to be remade into a 4th grade turd.

A-Team grounded and realistic?

They fire a billion rounds and don't injure a single person.

Cars and trucks blowing up left and right and the vehicles themselves are the only things that get damaged.

Hannibal has a costume assortment that would make any Hollywood prop company jealous.

They're fugitives living off of whoever hires them at random but Mr T. has $10,000,000 in gold hanging off his neck.

Should I go on?

You beat me to it. yes pleae go on. talk about how in act 3, BA would create an entire arsenal out of chicken wire and gaffer tape and destroy the mob that wields AK-17s.

obviously not 'real life' realistic - I mean no jumping out of an exploded plane w/ tank on parachutes and using the floating tank to engage the enemy planes.

The tv show was silly but it was at least plausible, and they did shoot and kill bad guys.
The trailer looks like the recent GIjoe film - totally over the top, beyond suspension of disbelief type stuff.

I can believe a team of guys makeshifting a weapon from spare parts or formulating a plan to dispatch a threat but some stuff is just ridiculous eye candy.

Gonna have to challenge you on that bartito.
I think they shot and killed cars aplenty but never people. even bad people.
It kinda like Scooby-do in that sense, pretty harmless.
As for the far out stuff, if they had the budget and tech like now, I'm sure they'd do it.
I mean I understand being reverential to some tv from yesteryear but not the A-Team.
Its as serious as Barney Miller is about real cops. :)

I guess its just my nostalgia clouding my judgment again....
at any rate, I still think the new movie looks crappy.

I hear you bro. They ruin all tv shows-into-movies. I SPY, WILD WILD WEST, etc.

lol. absolutely. i was totally fascinated by those guys. great boys tv entertainment. they fired their guns and fired and fired. and although they were trained military specialists they never hit anyone (i guess they only showed two seasons in germany).

As for the far out stuff, if they had the budget and tech like now, I'm sure they'd do it.

i second that and i bet they would turn it into a violent show. This time they wouldn´t shoot cars only. Ever wondered how Murdock´s torturing skills were?

yes they do. I loved Miami Vice as a kid and look at that stupid movie. turned off after 15 minutes. although a few days back i watched a rerun of the show (think it was second season) and it was totally unbearable eighties cheese.

...so what about my favorite show back then, the fall guy?

you think Lee Majors can still play the part...?

The problem with these movies is that they take away HOW we remember the show. These shows were all pretty cheesy and bad, though somehow we liked them. I remember recently going back and watching some MacGuyver (which when I was younger, I thought was FUCKING AWESOME). Man was that show bad. Bad, bad, bad. But still funny bad.

The new big Hollywood remakes don't work for a couple reasons: they dont have the nostalgia, and they try to take themselves too seriously. I would like to see this A-Team movie though:

I never spent much time in school, but i taught ladies plenty...

oh man, i used to love that show so much!! i caught an episode of it a few years back on Bravo or something and amazingly it was still pretty good, obviously made in the 80's, but actually still watchable unlike knight rider or the a team.

the trailer was worth it to see the plane turn into a tank by way of spontaneous combustion.

In fairness to elberto I get what he meant about The A-Team being sort of realistic. Sure it was laughable & ridiculous but it always kinda felt like the stuff they did was possible to do in real life. Knight Rider or something like that I think was probably more fanciful than the A-Team.

Personally, I just feel sorry for the guy playin B.A. Baracus. I mean lets be honest here B.A. Baracus was Mr. T playing B.A. Baracus as Mr. T. There's no difference between the two  So this poor guy is basically playing Mr. T.

I pity the fool who thinks he can play Mr. T.

I agree. Though I recently re-watched The Guyver series, something I haven't seen since I was about 12 & I still thought it rocked :-D. I also watched the new animated series & loved that too. But generally speaking youth & nostalgia does give childhood programs a rose tinted memory. But I think that can be said for any fondly remembered childhood memories.

Personnally, I'd still like to see He-Man & Thundercats turned into proper films.

Thanks FM, that is precisely what I meant by "realistic" I suppose I should have used the term "plausible" instead. at least someone has my back

I tried to rewatch MacGyver a few years back when it hit DVD and I couldnt get through the first season. too bad because I had no recollection of most of the episodes (I must have started watching the show later on) and a few were odd - pilot episode where mac uses a gun? and the fire ants episode? I remember the show being much better, especially the murdock vs mac episodes...

thundercats would be a cool movie (if done right)
he-man, not so much - I rewatched that a few years back and could not believe how completely gay it was. prince adam and skeletor definitly prefer the company of men. No disrespect to homosexuals, but I always remembered he-man as a tough manly-man and he reminded me more of out of the closet rob halford - and skeletor is the biggest undead sissy ever  odd that I found him so sinister as a child.

What I'd like to see is Airwolf

meh, on second thought that would probably suck too :p

I have the first season on my netflix queue for the sole reason of seeing the ants episode again. I hope it holds up...

Speaking of nostalgia, several years ago I bought the Robotech DVD's in an attempt to recapture my youth. I never realized how BORING the show was. There were some neat things in there, but there are so many recycled elements that it gets hard to keep watching. Still love the theme song, however.

The ants episode was the worst MacGyver I have ever seen. it was roger corman B movie bad.

I also had the robotech (macross saga) sets and couldnt even get through the first set

elbarto1 mate I think you've got your Guyvers mixed up.

I was talking about The Guyver, a Manga cartoon from the 80's.

So Cool. 8)

I fleetingly thought thats what you meant. well actually I thought of this:

I think the fifth season of The A-Team had the most "realism" in it, especially the first three part story.
