Seagate is the way to go for external hard drives, in my experience. I have had a great of trouble with Western Digital hard drives and the rubbish software that comes with them, and I refuse to purchase any more of their products. Their customer service is also a disgrace.

Must of been a bad batch, I worked in a computer shop for nearly two years and ALL we sold HDD-wise were Samsung and WD - never had one drive returned due to a fault, hence why they are my preference.

thats what I thought. BTW, didn't seagate take-over Maxtor?

also, elbarto, I see the $59 deal is a recertified drive. Any experience with those?

yikes, i didnt see that. I'd pass on a recert of anything.

I have 4 WD drives and 2 Seagate. never had a problem w/ WD. the seagates are relatively new so I cant comment on reliability there.

Just thought some of you may need a deal.

18 months ago my mother was out walking (old people jogging) and she tripped over a buckled sidewalk and hit her head. she developed brain trauma that only 1% of people get, this is known at the outlier percentage, people who just dont recover from such things.

her symptoms included constant migraines, blurred/distorted vision and dizziness. she had to sell her car because she cant drive and quit her job because she cant work. After seeing every doctor in the area and even outside the area who specializes in the field and them telling her shes screwed she happened upon a doctor in Detroit MI who is working with literally BRAND NEW methods/research who create a unique pair of glasses that instantly correct the problem.

The issue is called Vertical Heterophoria (and none of the neurologists pick up on this) this means the eyes have a convergence issue created by the impact/trauma and basically dont focus on the same point like normal eyes do, making vision a distorted blur, which in turn creates crippling headaches, and dizziness. The lenses instantly correct this issue allowing the patient to begin the real healing process and hopefully, ultimate recovery.

Why am I blathering about this on a movie forum? This technique is literally BRAND NEW, people from all over the world with these issues have been traveling to MI to be properly diagnosed and healed. Maybe one of you know someone who has such issues and can pass along this info. And if you dont, its a interesting story :)

Indeed. Hope your mother fully recovers. :)

What Gaith said. I really hope your mother's condition improves, elbarto.

Ditto

That's terrible man I really hope you guys can get her some of those glasses!

Great post, barto. My mother has the prism effect in her eyes, so I wonder if those glasses could make her focus properly. She doesn't have the headaches, but maybe she'd sleep better.

thanks everyone, i appreciate the reply's i just got off the phone w/ her and she is very happy. hopefully she will be able to get her life back to normal with this treatment.

Oh, I thought she'd just heard about it too, but does she actually have some special glasses now, then?

yes she is in Detroit right now getting fitted for the glasses. I spoke w/ her yesterday and she reports an immediate improvement. This is fantastic news for us.

Glad to hear the good news eb :)

It'll be interesting to see how fast this technology spreads. I'd love for my mother to try it too, but she would never go to Michigan just to try that. (at least she has a passport, unlike me, though. Haha.) The thing is, you probably have to go there to find out if you're even a candidate...

nope there is an online questionnaire:

and the main site:

Thanks! Maybe I'll phone her tomorrow and have her take that questionnaire, at least.

good stuff, this is what i had hoped when i posted this. Hope your mother finds relief ripplin!

my folks are back from detroit, mom says shes feeling 80% better, remarkable.

Glad to hear your mother got relief so quickly. I'm sure as time goes on, she'll get better as her eyes continue to adjust and get stronger from the refocusing.

I feel bad for my mother because she is unable to wear bifocals and is constantly switching from reading glasses to distance. Might help her sleep better too if her eyes can be more relaxed all day, so to speak, and not have that stress of different focal points.

I just had my mother do the questionnaire over the phone and have sent it in with some detials about her symptoms. Now I just need to show her those videos. I tried to describe that part where the doctor runs the strip of prisms down in front of her eye and how it appears to move to the side. She thought that was interesting.
