As a Brit who lives under the beleaguered national health system I can confidently say despite its shortcomings at times. It's something most of us are extremely proud of  still and the thought of being rendered heavily in debt due to health concerns is a completely alien concept to us. The only way that would happen is from an inability to work  rather than an inability to pay our medical bills.

Here in Canada, our Health Care System is very similar to the UK model, and I thank our lucky stars every day for it.  Particularly, if you have a family member who suffers from a chronic illness like we do.

However, the negative side, the Canadian health system is far from perfect, and can be a frustrating/anxiety filled experience if you have any illness that falls outside the norm or you require a specialist, then the wait list times become very stressful.

My daughter has suffered from a mystery/undiagnosed illness for almost 5 years... she has missed out on most of her formative teenage years due to her condition and now at 18, when she should be going off to college and chasing her dreams, she is still living at home because she never knows where her next episode will strike.

In Canada, it feels like the right hand does not talk to the left hand.  Our GP does the best he can, sending out requests for different specialists, each with a minimum 6 month wait, and each time a different diagnoses that contradicts the previous one, a different prescription of meds, and no improvement.  5 years she has been on the merry go around, and while expense wise it has been minimal, treatment wise it has been heart breaking disappointing.

So after 5 years of this non sense, we are taking her to the Mayo Clinic (the number one ranked diagnostic clinic in the world) in the USA in hopes of finding answers and a treatment plan that works for her.  The expense is extraordinary!!!  But in one week, she will get more testing than she has had in the past 5 years!

I guess my rant is... or my take away is.... no matter the medical system.... if you have something more aggressive than a flu or cold, the health care system is not designed to easily aid you unless you have the money to go private it seems...

I've decided I'm going to read Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead. I just know it's going to be a painful experience. :(

Wonder Woman should be depicted as taller than Superman, who should be depicted as taller than Batman.

But… but why?

I plan on writing a Spider-Man period story à la my Superman script, and I'm toying with the idea of making Peter a randroid prior to the death of Uncle Ben. I thought it best to first familiarize myself with Rand's philosophy, as expressed in her own words, so I'm not just critiquing a caricature.

Matters of height aside, she should definitely be drawn muscular. Alex Ross has the right idea.

I like Eyes Wide Shut more every time I see it.
when I first saw it I was 20, I enjoyed it predominately for the mysterious orgy illuminati cult 2nd act.

Watched it last night for the first time in a few years and I utterly loved it, my real life relationship experiences finally caught up giving me enough base reference to recognize and (semi) understand the deeper psychological story of the film.

...and despite my general distaste for TC, I rather liked him in this.

I just watched The Fidelio Edition by Gatos. The original was always one of my favorites.

I agree about T.C. this and The Jack Reacher films may be the only ones that I like him in. He is rarely out of his Tom Cruise character. He needs to sink it in much deeper in his other roles if he is to be convincing.

I made a dumb little short film last week for a school event.  People seemed to like it.  If I were to share it here, should I give it a thread?  If so, should I put it in movies or fan films?

You could put it in the Awesome Youtube Videos thread if you don't want to give it its own thread.  Also it depends on what it is.

My friends always call me an old man.  I'm under 30.  :-/

Well, it's far from awesome.  And it's largely a knock-off of Fellini's 8 1/2 (I had about a week to make it and due to poor planning on my part I shot and edited it alone in one night, so forgive my unoriginality).

I gave it a Letterboxd entry just for funsies.

I liked it, that was cool. A good weird way of expressing social anxiety on film. 3 out of 5 balls

For something you shot and edited by your lonesome, it's not the worst thing in the world. It's certainly better than the "films" I shot on MiniDV back in 2006.
