Paranormal Activity

i gotta say it bored the crap outta me, 5 mins in and its like oh its another 'reality' movie a la blair witch after that it was all downhill due to me not being able to get into the story.

I agree the whole "reality movie" is well & truely over the hill & the film does start slowly.

But.

REC was also done in the style of a "reality movie" & started slowly yet once it got going it was excellent.

What got under my skin wasn't so much "what" happened in the film, rather "why" it happened.

The idea a demon would randomly pick young girls to tormet over the course of a couple of decades just so they could brake them & ultimately kill them, I just found that malevolent intention very dark & I thought the methods of the demon were shown very well.

Beside I've been watchin all the SAW films recently so it was nice a change from people getting ripped up :)

indeed Rec was ace. its just i cant get into the whole reality supernatural movie thing anymore, ive seen too many of em :(

Wathced the DVDscr thats floating around, and albeit being in a format I usually like, I see this as way overhyped, great marketing none the less! I also have subsequently watched the theatrical ending, both have their merits, there was another ending, according to the wikipedia page that only showed once, but it sounds like the best ending to me, would love to see that one also!

The slow start nearly killed this film for me, they edited it to shorten, the original must have been painful to sit through. What comes after that just wasn't enough for me to have liked this movie much as a whole, but take the last 30 mins or so alone and it was pretty good!

I saw the Screener Version, which I think is the one everyone hates. My version has the Cop Ending & is about 1hr40mins.

I just found another ending where she smiles at the camera. I actually prefer the Cop ending, it's much more realistic IMO.

I think the problem with these "real movies" is that studios still try to market them as actual events. After The Blair Witch Project people just aren't gonna fall for that anymore, so I think people feel somewhat insulted when the marketing of a film tries to say it's a real movie.

Personaly, I just see it as another style of movie. You've got Torture Porn like SAW, you're Traditional films like The Exorcist & now "Real Movies" like REC.

All styles are valid if they deliver a chill or scare.

But in the case of "Real Movies" studios have got to stop marketing them as "Actual Events", that way they won't piss people off before they've even seen the film.

Having just discovered there's at least 2 different version I just hope they but all the versions out in a cool DVD boxset or sumthing.

I watched the SCR last night.
pretty good but I found the first 30 minutes pretty boring.
I also felt the film started to lose its intensity right after the ouiji board scene.
IMO the actors werent freaked out enough by that. If it were me I'd have been the fuck outta that house at that point but the dude was just annoyed and interested. [spoiler:2hfefnyt]I mean noises are one thing but moving objects (besides a door) and fire are cause for alarm yes?[/spoiler:2hfefnyt]
I also was easily able to call the ending [spoiler:2hfefnyt]I just thought she would come upstairs with the knife and stab him in bed.[/spoiler:2hfefnyt]
I liked the cop ending alot and havent seen the other endings but their descriptions seem lame.
so overall, I liked it but it could have been an hour long and had the same effect.
7/10

The problem I have with the film is the DVD.

It's been released with the Theatrical & Unseen ending, neither of which I like as I prefer the Original Cop Ending.

So I've got my fingers crossed the Studios will stay true to form & release yet another version with the Cop Ending included.

Has it aready been released with the unseen ending? If so, is this the ending where she sliths her own throat?
