about this fanedit:
This is a shorter cut of Watchmen edited down from the director's cut. I tried not to alter the overall story too much and the key plot points are still there. Some of the minor character arcs have been abbreviated and some redundant exposition have been cut. There are about 80 edits in total. The final runtime is even 29 minutes shorter than the theatrical cut.

I know a lot of fanboys will be upset that this edit doesn't replicate the comic, but my goal was to make a shorter cut, not a longer one. I'll leave that for Warner Brothers to release the Ultimate Extended Unrated Exactly like the Comic Director's Cut Limited Collector's Edition Boxset. (You all know it's coming. Studios love to triple dip their DVD/Bluray releases.)

Instead, this edit may appeal more to those who are not hardcore Watchmen fans and just want to be entertained by a faster paced cut of this epic movie. Kudos to Zach Snyder for translating this ambitious story and its characters to life for the big screen, from a graphic novel that many said would be unfilmable.

A list of the actual cuts/edits would be nice.

Or someone could transcribe the entire script...

Noooooooooooooooooo!

i just noticed on my profile page at http://fanedit.org/kongedit/ the description for watchmen is the description for troy. achilles would've made a great watchmen. hahaha.

also funny is the link url contains kongedit instead of gekko. ah the good ole days, back when i thought king kong would be my first and only edit. ;)

corrected your page. :)
the name kongedit will stay though. I hope it's not too much of an inconvenience.

not a big deal. kongedit reminds me of how i started... lots of struggle and confusion :?

it's how we all started... with no knowledge of the tools and a lot of trial and error.

Hi,

This is the first fanedit I'm downloading (the dvd version). In Jdownloader is says for part 28, 38, 39 the password is wrong. Can someone please either give/pm me a password, or explain to me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance, am very much looking forward to a streamlined version. Thought the comic was great, and that the movie had the potential to be awesome if it would just be more like a movie, instead of a moving comic.

there is no password.

this is a common (incorrect) message that sometimes appears if the file is corrupt. If there is an md5, check them with that. otherwise, redownload the parts that you get the unpacking error for

As I have editor's block, I plan on reviewing a whole bunch of true fanedits, extended editions, and maybe a few SE's along the way. Why not make a big, all encompassing topic for all of them.

What to expect:
-Reviews of a wide variety of fanedits, old and new, including rankings based on quality.
-Firstlings are generally except from the standard review and ranking system (as they are usually lacking in quality). Exceptions will be made if the edit is good enough to go head to head with the big boys.
-No numeric ratings. I hate assigning arbitrary numbers to things. Same with letter grades. Expect the review to contain praise, criticism, and a summery at the end.

I just re-gave the option to download, and it said I hadn't agreed to something about rapidshare. Clicked accept and it started downloading :) Joy!

Thanks for the reactions so soon. The help is much appreciated.

...and I could have sworn this one was uploaded to Megaupload and not Rapidshare...

WATCHMEN: LEGACY

I loved Watchmen. Loved the comic, loved the theatrical cut, loved the directors cut. Still is my favorite movie this year. When I saw that geKKo had made a condensed cut of it, I was intrigued. While I hadn't seen any of his work, he obviously had a lot of experience making condensing fanedits (Go Fast Edition).

Technical: I downloaded the M4V file and the quality was to be expected. I had no issue watching it full screen on my computer monitor (20" 1680x1050). My one issue is that it looked like the video was zoomed in from the 2.4 AR the theatrical and directors cut had to the 1.85 AR the fanedit has. I'm not sure if this is a creative decision or not. It doesn't effect the viewing that much, aside from some credits that get cut off during the title sequence.

Edits: I was amazed. Legacy cuts a lot of the depth and detail the directors cut had, but the end product is still a very good movie. I didn't find myself actively missing material for the most part, save two sections. One is when one of the leaders of industry hints at a possible inquiry to Commie connections Veidt might have in his past, and the other is Dan having problems getting it up. The former gives Veidt a reason to say the line "So you want to know about my past?" and the latter gives Dan a reason for being afraid of his suit. Both kind of come out of nowhere in this edit. Aside from that, terrific editing choices.

Replacement Quality: For those who are already big Watchmen fans, this will not replace the Director's Cut. For those who disliked the movie for either it's pretentiousness or it's length, Watchmen Legacy might help you appreciate the film more. Regardless, anyone interested should seek this edit out. It's one of the shining examples of condensing a movie without losing the core themes and plot. I'll definitely be looking at geKKo's other edits.

1) Watchmen Legacy

Note: Haters of blue penis and those looking for a PG-13 cut need not apply. Watchmen Legacy is still a hard R and Doc's schlong is still proudly on display.

Agreed, including an explanation for the 2.35 -->1.85 AR change Tubes mentioned in his review.

Yeah, it's a shame when credits get chopped off. You don't want to see that going into a fanedit. IMO.

Otherwise, I can't wait to watch. It sounds like a good fanedit. :)
