I plan on doing an edit of The Thing sometime, and have been unsure which transfer to use. I currently own the initial universal release, but I know that in recent years Scream Factory and Arrow have also brought out new and different looking transfers - just wondering if anyone's taken the time to properly compare/has any strong opinions either way that would help my decision.

From this comparison I feel like the Arrow looks clearer and shows up the blue tint a bit:

It would be nice to see other contrasting scenes though.

I don't know much about the scream factory release other than that it apparently has a lot of special features (which is tempting). It is region A, however, which is problematic for me as a UK citizen.

I don't have a multi-region player, but I did randomly find once that a Region A blu-ray played fine on my computer and on nothing else. Is that normal with region A's?

I've found frequently that Region A/B/C on the box does not correspond with actual region locking on the disc.

If blu-ray.com is anything to go by, then I think it is actually Region A locked in this case.

Found this: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&d1=11006&d2=11009&s1=107711&s2=107773&i=3&l=0

Reviews generally seem to favour the Arrow release, but - maybe it's just me - although the colour is warmer on the Arrow release, it also seems a little too dark on some of the outside shots and even seems to have less detail. Part of the shot also seems cut off.

However, these screenshot comparisons do make it look as though Scream Factory is slightly squashed horizontally.
