So, they're doing another Die Hard movie, half-sequel half-prequel. What shall they call it? "Old Habits Die Hard" would be a solid choice. As is "Die Hard: Year One", the comic book it's based on.
It's called McClane. Not "Die Hard: McClane," just "McClane."
Predator series is kind of a mess now, isn't it? With Predator, Predators, and The Predator all being different movies in the same continuity, none of them being a remake or reboot. Say what you will about Predator 2, but it at least committed to sensible sequel titling.
The Dark Knight Rises - after the second film was called The Dark Knight, I felt it was a mistake to return to that nomenclature. But if they insisted, then surely it should be Falls, right? It's the definitive end of a trilogy. Bad choices all around.
The previous movie had been about how Batman became the Dark Knight (i.e., taken the fall for Harvey Dent and ruined his reputation). In this one, Batman becomes a hero again, even though Bruce (possibly) had to make the ultimate sacrifice to make that happen.
Also, Bruce had said all along that Batman was important as a symbol and that it didn't matter who was behind the cowl. After Bruce sacrifices himself, an inspired Detective Blake takes up the mantle, meaning that Batman (a.k.a. the Dark Knight) will rise once again.
The last shot is even Blake being lifted up into the Batcave (i.e., rising). It's almost too on-the-nose, but it's completely on point for the themes of the trilogy.
Also, the titles of each movie in the trilogy don't show up until the end, because that's when the title has come true. Batman hasn't fully begun until the end of the first movie; he isn't the Dark Knight until the end of the second; and he doesn't rise until the end of the third. Very clever, if you ask me.
What's not clever is Man of Steel using the same "wait till the end to show the title" strategy but having no meaning beyond "We're trying to cash in on the Dark Knight Trilogy."
I agree with you about the Rambo names, though. Those are ridiculous!
Here's my nominee: Toy Story. It's a brilliant movie, but could that name be any more generic? It's like going to the store and finding the cheaper off-brand version of the movie that you actually want. What if A Bug's Life was named Insect Story, or if Wall-E was named Robot Story?
I mean, maybe the title is a pun on toy stores, but a toy store doesn't really come into play into this movie or the third one. (It does in the second, but I don't think that's why the name was chosen.)
Predator series is kind of a mess now, isn't it? With Predator, Predators, and The Predator all being different movies in the same continuity, none of them being a remake or reboot. Say what you will about Predator 2, but it at least committed to sensible sequel titling.
well, even though it says US by my name i'm in Brazil right now, so i can think of at least 10 terribly translated movie titles haha. for example, American Graffiti became "Summer Crazy", or "Summertime's Crazes" or maybe "Summer's Madness" or something like that.
