I've spent the last few weeks condensing the 1941 serial, ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL, down to a 120-minute feature length film. Rather than submit it directly to the IFDB, I've decided to post a link to the preview version that's currently on YouTube:

Comments and suggestions welcome.

I originally read this as Kazaam: Origin, and now I'm sad that there will be no origin story to that masterpiece...

If anyone is interested, I've designed a DVD cover for this edit.

My review from IFDB:

This was a true treat watch.

Easily one of the best (if not THEE BEST) cliffhanger serials ever made, our intrepid editor Billy Batson (hhmmm, any relation? lol) has crafted a fun 2 hour popcorn romp.   Compared to his similar styled Flash Gordon fan edit, I found this one flowed much better.  Even though still episodic in nature due to the source material, it feels more like a unified narrative with a definite beginning, middle and end.

A few audio pops and hiccups and a couple of cuts I would have done differently, but considering the immense challenge of distilling over 200 minutes down to 2 hours, I think he did a spectacular job!

The grump old fanboy in me wishes he kept the title CAPTAIN MARVEL ORIGIN instead of Shazam.... LOL!

But if you love old serial adventures, or are curious about the Big Red Cheese before the new move is released, I highly recommend checking this little gem out.

THUMBS UP! :)

From the 1970s Saturday Morning show, "SHAZAM!" Frank Coughlin  Jr., plays the Zookeeper. He was Billy Batson, in Republic Pictures serial, "The Adventures of Captain Marvel".

^ thanks for posting, bionic! that takes me back to my hood of child.

the most awesome element is the tacked-on elephant noise in the rhino shot. (sure, it could have been an off-screen elephant, but iirc, '70s entertainment had its own logic.)

back to the edit: looking forward to watching this captain marvel edit when i get a few hours of downtime.
