Batman: Descent Into Mystery:
As a fan of the comics, the intent of the cut is obvious, but the editor essentially tears the heart from the original movie and creates a sterile watch. The Batman-Joker relationship in this story is meaningless without the parent aspect, no matter how you slice it. Batman just passionately beats the hell out of the Joker in the belfry with no dialogue in a jarring manner. There is little to underpin Bruce's anger aimed towards him. Bruce pondering his parents' death early in the narrative means zero in the context of the story, and without Vicki providing a background to it in her investigation, it is utterly without place.
The Bruce Wayne / Vickie Vale subplot is crucial to the original story. Without it, Bruce's character development is lacking in any emotional resonance. Vicki goes to the museum and waits for nobody in particular, for example. Alfred is almost pointless without the Bruce/Vicki romance, as is Knox (as the "other" man). The editor seems to paint Batman as this impenetrable monolith without the need to grow. I fail to see how this is comics accurate. Batman's best interpretations often show him as vulnerable and human- this is what makes him unique above most all over superheroes. There is never any fear that this Batman will fail, which makes him uninteresting.
Besides this, the cut is impeccable in terms of the visual cuts, though the edit was not the best in terms of visual quality (the dark depths were grey and pixelated), and the audio cuts on occasion were too sudden.
