It's about damn time. I just hope that it's set in the past like the Captain Marvel movie, so it doesn't toatally kill any tension revolving around her character during The next two Avengers movies.

I've said since Phase 1 I'd like to see a relatively low budget origin movie for her, where maybe Scarlett Johansen is in it, but maybe it's the initiation into the place that trains her and she's played by a younger (cheaper) actress on a spy mission, Scarlett could show up for bookends. Could be fun.

Or make that the prequel sequel to a proper Scarlett solo movie where she's taking on the former KGB Hydra people or something. Just make sure it's a spy movie, secret Hollywood producer browsing this thread.

The obvious way to go about it, imo, would be ScarJo Widow fighting ex-KGB dudes and uncovering some of their more egregious experiments. These directly tie in with flashbacks of her training with a younger actor.

Throw in the Winter Soldier somewhere. You have a decent Bond-esque flick.

Also, throw in some Hawkeye for good measure. Maybe he's a guy she has to seduce, only for her to find out he's a field agent for SHIELD. Also, given how Widow in The Winter Soldier said she left the KGB for SHIELD, I would love to explore the alternate history of the MCU where the KGB exists in the 2000s. Remmeber, Black Widow was born in 1984, so she should be 34 for Infinity War.

Yeah that's better, it's like a combo. You know where it could take place...

Budapest! Could have Hawkeye, Bucky, even Fury. It could be her Shield recruitment, with flashbacks for her Black Widow training recruitment, that'd tie together nicely.

So Romanoff was born in 1984, meaning she would have been 7 when the Soviet Union fell.

I was always confused by the line about Budapest, but it would make sense if the event in questions takes place in 2006. During this time, Hungary's Socialist Party was facing a people's rebellion following a confession that they had lied to win the election.

We could assume that Romanoff remained a Soviet sleeper agent after the fall of the iron curtain, sowing seeds of the old order back in with the new. The election of a fraudulent socialist government seems exactly the sort of thing Widow would seek to be doing.

This would be a few years before Iron Man, so Widow has plenty of time to integrate with SHIELD.

Take it one step further, it might be neat to see Hawkeye take on the traditional "Bond girl" role at some point, if only for awhile.

Also, I wonder if this film will reveal that Hawkeye has ear implants (like in the comics) because Widow deafens him At some point. Then, it turns out that th implants greatly improve his skills at the bow (allowing him to make shots no one else could) and show the audience why he's an Avenger.

But then, I'm talking more about Hawkeye than Widow, and I don't want her overshadowed in her own movie, either.

I don't think they'll do a romantic past relationship with his character, or any kind of seduction, at least not between those two; he's married and she's close friends with his wife. They definitely don't act like exes and I think there would be heavy backlash considering he's one of the only OG Avengers that hasn't either objectified her or shared an onscreen kids with her.

It's not alternate, it's just simplified for people who don't know.  The KGB does exist, serving pretty much the same functions, with all the same people.  It was "disbanded" for political cover, but was reformed shortly after.  It has been called a few different organizations, the most well-known being the FSK.  Nowadays, under Putin, it's known as the Federalnaya Sluzhba Bezopasnosti (FSB) and it is in full effect.  (Don't forget that Putin served with The First Directorate of the KGB, and was stationed in East Berlin though the fall of the Wall.  He absolutely will have all his people around him.)
