Let's just get this out of the way, this is a perfect 10 out of 10 movie for me.  It manipulates you from the very first frame.  As a parent, it expertly pushes every fear nerve in your body.  As a mystery, it is so smartly and intricately crafted that Agatha Cristie would be proud.  It also works as a social commentary about our modern age of instant news and social media.  The narrative is innovative and unrelenting til the very end.  And it lingers with you long after the end credits roll.  Absolutely brilliant storytelling!

Yes, loved this movie! I would take away a little bit because of the obvious ending but overall brilliant. I've ended up watching it 4 times, actually. I have a little marquee thing in my media room that says "Now Playing" and then I put the latest movie I watched. My friends kept coming over, asking what "Now Playing Searching" was supposed to mean so I'd tell them about the movie. Then they think it is going to be bad because when you say "the whole movie takes place on a screen" to anyone over 30 and it seems like a terrible idea. So then I have to show them, because though the premise (gimmick?) sounds uninteresting to me, it is actually a great movie, executed smartly and edited really well. It's a great thriller, period. And it uses the screen thing not as a gimmick but as a tool to tell the story in a new way.

Here's a really cool behind the scenes clip with the editors (I was surprised at how much of the screen was actually created in the editing room, so much time and effort to duplicate something we see every day):
 
Casino Royale (2006)
Very much felt like an updated vintage Bond. That being said, I'm not much of a Bond fan. Too much Casino in this one and not enough plot. Twists served themselves rather than interacting with the viewer and ultimately served to extend the movie rather than fill in the story. Better than Brosnan, but nothing to write home about.

^^^ It's been a while since I've seen it, but I remembered really liking Casino Royale. 

I'm not a bond fan at all, but my memory tells me that Casino Royale and Goldfinger stand out among the rest. Skyfall I have mixed feelings about.

Quantum of Solace (2008)
Another run of the mill action outing. This is again reminiscent of vintage Bond, action without much substance. Wish there was more plot. The action chase scene with the ropes totally felt like the Musketeer. Again, nothing to write home about. 6/10
 
Skyfall (2012)
Now this was a good thriller of an action flick, even the third time around. I couldn't help but notice how similar Silva is to the Joker. Spectacular dramatic build ups and compelling story telling albeit a bit slow between major plot points. This movie was great in its use of humor which never lessened the seriousness of any scene. It was serious, but could make fun of itself (vintage Bond) which legitimized the tone and focus of the movie and hopeful turn in the franchise. It's nice to see that they spent some time on characters and plot, even if this is basically Mission Impossible 1.

Spectre (2015)
I appreciate the somewhat linear story telling occurring across the Daniel Craig Bond films. This one felt a bit week compared to Skyfall, but on par with Craig's first two outings as 007. He's definitely the most complex Bond character which sadly isn't complemented well by the villain in this one. Probably should be his last outing as it closed the narrative in a decent way. 7/10
 
If Beale Street Could Talk. Beautiful. Haunting. Better than almost all of the nominated Best Picture films. Might be my favorite movie of 2018. On Hulu; check it out.
 
Inferno (2016)
A lackbuster of a film. A charade of a the source character. When you can't top the original, remove what makes the key character so intriguing as well as what creates compelling twists. This is a, if that's too easy to be true, then it's true film. More of what I'd expect from a teenage thriller than from a Langdon story. 6/10
 
National Treasure (2004)
I have a love hate relationship with this movie. It's a great fun story with a clever albeit convenient storyline that's a tin tin meets robert langdon outing. Its great, but why oh why did they have to cast Nicholas Cage.....

Vice. Whatever one may think of the man and his politics, I think it’s undeniable that there’s an interesting story to be told about him. Unfortunately this isn’t it. It’s uneven going back and forth between genuine biography and what feels like a Saturday Night Live sketch simply taking aim at Cheney.

Now having seen Vice. I’ve seen all the Best Picture nominees. I believe the Academy can nominate up to ten. Here’s the ten I would’ve nominated in no particular order.

Last night I checked out Black Mirror for the first time, starting with the second episode. My father insisted on showing me an episode of it after we were talking about the new Twilight Zone. 
I really quite enjoyed the episode that I watched, and I will totally watch more.

I've heard that the first episode is a bad start, and he couldn't decide on which one to show me, so we went with the second episode.
