The Last Movie(s) You Watched... (quick one or two sentence reviews)

Ben Hur (1925) - Wonderfully directed and accompanied by an absolutely gorgeous score.
Despite being 1.5 hours shorter, this easily remains as epic as the 1959 remake . The chariot race is fantastic, and the battle on the slave ship is arguably much more thrilling in this version. It's clear that the 1959 version took a lot of inspiration from this visually.

Death Wish 2018
I love revenge flicks always have, always will.. this is about as generic as a revenge flick as you could possibly get with a lead actor who can't even be arsed to do anything other than read his lines. On the plus side... well err its a revenge flick I liked it... a bit..

Waterworld
Hadn't watched this since it first came out on VHS but thought I would give it a revisit evn though I didn't like it all that much. It was better than I remembered, theres hardly any cgi in it and the stuntwork is pretty impressive, the story side of things is where it sinks and some of the supporting actors are laughly bad. Not a bad candidate for an edit, theres a decent 90min Mad Max clone in there but a 1995 near on 200million budget was a hell of a price tag for that.

I haven't seen it, but I believe there is an edit of it on IFDB.

Off to ifdb I go.. I did read there is a much longer TV version I wonder if thats what they have done with it.

Yes it is curious to see if improves its 40 minites longer!!

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
With editing the Matrix, it seems that Keanu is popping up or catching my eye more lately. Haven't watched this in years so I caught it on prime yesterday. Still ridiculous and still a classic. I've heard there are rumors that a 3rd movie is being talked about?

Bogus journey was great too :) , William Sadler steals that film as The Grim Reaper, I still laugh every time they name check Socrates. I saw something the other day that the third one is definitely going ahead soon doesn't really sound like a good idea on paper but it would be funny to see John Wick acting like Ted 'Theodore' Logan again.

Yes, a 3rd one is confirmed to be in the works. I watched this interview with the writers/cast the other day. It actually sounds like a decent premise:

Been years since I've watched either of the films. Should give them another whirl.

thanks scrib its not on fe.info I wil try a pm

I think Waterworld is underrated, it got a bad rap for how much it cost.

Although it kinda sinks (ha) after he loses his boat, since the boat is the best character in the movie.

I love Waterworld. It's not a great movie by any means but it's a fun sci-fi action popcorn flick.

It’s been many many years since I’ve seen Waterworld. But I seem to remember seeing it once where in the end...

... dry land is explicitly shown to be the summit of Everest by way of a plaque. But in another viewing there’s no plaque and it’s left ambiguous as to what dry land is.

Am I remembering that correctly?

It's been on my to-watch list for a while (I've been saying that a lot lately). Maybe I should... Well... watch it.

:D  Love that joke. Looks like it was a 176 minute TV cut back in the day. I think there is a dvd...

...but no blu-ray.

Funny thing is I did Google it, but t it wasn’t immediately apparent to me which version was which and, well, it’s Waterworld and I couldn’t be bothered.  :p

The Postnan has always intrigued me too but the runtime always put me off. Think i may finally get round to watching it

The Postman

Ridiculously overlong but tbh I didn't get bored, cheesey as hell and unintentionally funny while still being pretty damn entertaining.  Costner obviously believed his own hype at this point, but some of it is definitely deserved. I think its a lot better than Waterworld, whether its a bad movie with good bits or a good movie with bad bits?? Haven't made my mind up yet. Very tempted to try an actual fanfix with this.

*looks like @"bionicbob" beat me to it, do you still have this one good sir?

I think it is still available.

My opinion is it is a "good" movie, not great, with bad bits.  It has a strong Frank Capra element to it that really appeals to me.  And the score is wonderful.
