Two rarely seen early Kung Fu movies from John Woo are getting a blu-ray release (possibly first time in HD) from Eureka! video in June (new 2k scans plus new commentaries):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Q9HNX4L/

91eYRNDDIqL._SX385_.jpg

Michael Palin's 1982 Comedy 'The Missionary' (from George Harrison's Handmade films) is getting it's first blu-ray release in a new 2k scan on the Indicator label in June. It's never been released in it's theatrical scope ratio on home video until now (only pan & scan previously I think):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PPBRVCL/

71fkdvr06tL._SX342_.jpg

I cannot believe it's taken 17-years for the anarchic cult-classic '24 Hour Party People' to get an HD upgrade (in June). The cover boasts 4.5 hours of bonus material. I know there are a lot of deleted scenes but will they also be in HD?:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NN3FJ3G/

A new blu-ray release of 'Drive' is coming out in May but it's going to include the first physical retail copy of the rescored BBC Radio 1 version. I'm not sure how that's going to work for blu-ray as IIRC the R1 version was created at 25fps:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NN5XJ4X/

81Qx1Pi1qAL._SX385_.jpg

I'll be removing my preservation of this version of Drive then.

I noticed this on the indicator website and may pick this up. I have pre-ordered the SCUM box set.

I was going to rewatch this a couple of months ago The Mondays are one of my favourite bands of all time.
I was going to purchase the US Version so i'm pretty happy we are getting a release....although the cover artwork is awful Let's hope the bonus deleted scenes are HD so we get the long anticipated TM2YC extended version.

I'll definitely be purchasing this - your preservation is one of my favourite discs. Maybe you could do a remix version where you use some of the tracks from the original and some from the rescore as not all songs worked in the Zane Lowe version.

Oh yeah, it's scheduled to release a few weeks after: https://www.amazon.com/24-Hour-Party-People-Blu-ray/dp/B07NHQ88S5/

^ The artwork is a lot better (based on some original poster art*). I'll be interested to see what bonus content each release has.

* Using this original promotional poster art would have been more fun :D :

I just noticed that the German limited-edition 3-disc blu-ray set of 'Heaven's Gate' (the only release to have both cuts of the film) is selling for just 9.99 Euros (£8.80 / $11.16):

https://www.amazon.de/Heavens-Gate-Directors-Collectors-Bonus-Blu-ray/dp/B0791XV7MP/

40940692593_cbb39c16c1_z.jpg

I might buy myself a second copy at that price, just to sell in the future :D . That's about a third of the price of the Criterion single disc blu-ray.

Weird Science is getting a new 4K restoration from the o-neg from Arrow Video in July:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07R5554K1/

71J6U9nYteL._SX522_.jpg

It comes with the "Edited-for-TV version of the film (SD only, 95 mins), plus comparison featurette highlighting the alternate dubs and takes" as a bonus, which I know some people will enjoy for the cheesy nostalgia ;) . Plus two other cuts of the film, seamlessly branched.

Here's some news I know @"SilverWook" has been looking forward to.
20000k.jpg

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is finally coming to Blu-ray.  But only for members of the Disney Movie Club.  I ended up joining the club, because why not.

The 6 new 4K/2K scans of films by Dietrich & Sternberg that Criterion earlier put together is getting a limited release on the Indicator label:

48041967451_bd970fbf67_b.jpg

71728y9gxjL._SX466_.jpg

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marlene-Dietrich-Sternberg-Paramount-1930-1935/dp/B07SSCJZNZ/

The box art is beautiful. Like a 'Yes' album cover. Much better than the plain Criterion art:

XC3612_flat.jpg

I think it's going to have much more bonus content, including commentaries and original poster art. I've ordered 2 copies, one to keep, one to sell (it's much cheaper to buy direct from the Indicator website by the way).

Oliver Stone is putting out a new 4K "Final Cut" of The Doors movie next month:

81eQ6cPTFbL._SX425_.jpg

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07RXK39L1/

The original cut and deleted scenes included too. Plus feature length 'When You're Strange' Doc.

A new 3-disc release of 'Oldboy' on the Arrow label looks great:

91y7i57KOGL._SX425_.jpg

71XYspMba9L._SX522_.jpg

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oldboy-Limited-Blu-ray-Choi-Min-sik/dp/B07SG7RNHF/

New 4K scan. Feature length making of. 5x commentaries. Music+effects track. Korean of English audio. Deleted scenes. 3-hours of bonus features. It's stuffed.

Oh, this is great news! I picked up a used copy of the 2004 DVD release, but the discs are kind of scratched up and not all of the episodes play. I didn't even realize until now that the version on those discs is slightly edited.

Luckily I haven't bought it yet because the reviews are saying things like "the worst blu-ray ever released". Turns out the film was shot on SD video in the first place, so full HD was never an option. It would've been nice if they'd put a 35mm print scan on the blu-ray instead of trying to upscale the SD video.

I just had a look at my old 2003 DVD and it's pretty heavy with digital compression and blocking (on top of the soft picture), so the new 50GB blu-ray might still be a nice upgrade. I'll wait and see if I can pick it up cheap.

'Local Hero' is getting it's first blu-ray release on Region-A Criterion in September:

https://www.criterion.com/films/28709-local-hero

Love the cover painting:

There is also a Region-B blu-ray, which has less good artwork (based on the original poster) but does have a commentary from Forsyth and Mark Kermode, making that the release to go for in my book:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Local-Peter-Riegert-Capaldi-Lancaster/dp/B07TKDPL4V/

Criterion are also putting out '1984' in a couple of weeks in a new 4K restoration. Reputedly with the intended colour timing supervised by Roger Deakins and the option of watching with the theatrical or intended scores.

https://www.criterion.com/films/29140-1984

A very fitting cover design.

Powell & Pressburger's 'Oh... Rosalinda!!' is getting it's first blu-ray release next week (new transfer from the original elements). One more film closer to getting their whole filmography in HD.

A 9-film Mario Bava boxset is being released by Arrow Video in September. It's stuffed with extras, including another 7 alternate cuts of the films. It's not cheap but you get a lot for your money. I might order one just to sell because bond togo out of print and through the roof.

The BBC are finally putting out the Alec Guinness 'Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy' mini-series in proper HD (it was shot on 16mm, not videotape) and it's the full uncut 5&1/4 hours. There was a dodgy US blu-ray with an abridged cut before. I do like the cover art.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tinker-Tailor-Soldier-Spy-Blu-ray/dp/B07VWR4KF4/

I wanted to do a TV-to-Movie fanedit of this one, so now is my chance. No word yet on them releasing the sequel series, 'Smiley's People'.

^ Post moved, as this thread is more relevant I think.

Looks very nice but I don't think it'll tempt me to upgrade from my existing blu-ray boxsets of the two series.

Two very cool-sounding old dinosaur adventure flicks have gotten blu reases of late: The Land Unknown and Dinosaurs!.

18674_4.jpg

19446_5.jpg

Alas, not only are both apparently not available for streaming rental, neither appear to have cheap used DVD versions to check out in lieu of a blind buy. Still, I feel that two (allegedly) high-quality dino flicks deserve a mention any day. :)

Monty Python is arriving on blu-ray in November: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Monty-Pythons-Flying-Circus-Complete/dp/B07XN4BKQC/

Before you say "hang on wasn't that shot on low res videotape" the info says "Previously edited sketches have been returned to their original length while filmed sketch sequences and Terry Gilliam's animations have been newly scanned in High Definition". The price will put me off though.

911x%2BdzSKlL._AC_SX522_.jpg

Arrow Video are releasing an ultimate Robocop set in November: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Robocop-Limited-Blu-ray-Peter-Weller/dp/B07X385BSV/

4K scan. Theatrical and unrated cuts on separate blu-rays, plus censored TV cut in standard defintion. 4 commentaries. Multiple sound mixes. Isolated scores. loads of other stuff. I've already pre-ordered a copy! :)

91aM1QPzenL._AC_SX522_.jpg

Also in November from Arrow, new 4K scan of this Gilliam classic: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fear-Loathing-Vegas-Limited-Blu-ray/dp/B07X5GB828/

New commentary by Gilliam. Includes bonus film about Ralph Steadman.

The 3-hour extended "Director's Cut" of 'Midsommar' that is "exclusive to Apple TV" apparently isn't. This French blu-ray release scheduled for December has both cuts on it "Edition Limitée (Version cinéma + Version longue)": https://www.amazon.fr/MIDSOMMAR-COLLECTOR-Digipak-Limitée-Version/dp/B07XJD59BX/

I was reading about the Arrow blu-ray of the Spaghetti Western 'The Grand Duel' here. The review says the slightly censored UK release and the uncensored US release are the same disc. Depending on which region player you use, A or B, it will load up a different cut of the film. Because the US R-Rating is a little harder than a UK 15-rating, Hollywood movies are sometimes slightly trimmed for the UK to avoid an 18-rating. So I wonder if there other blu-rays that work like that?
