So on to a different dvd topic....

Did anyone buy the DC animated BATMAN YEAR ONE?

And is anyone planning of buying BATMAN RETURN OF THE DARK KNIGHT this week?

I am bit on the fence for both. Will I be delighted or disappointed?

I have mixed feelins towards Batman: Year One. On the positive side, it's very faithful to the original comic book miniseries, which is an absolute masterpiece. On the negative side, it feels rushed because of the limited running time they insist in forcing upon the DCAU movies. And then there's the generic pseudoanime style in the animation.

I'll definitely watch The Dark Knight Returns, at least they've allowed it to be a two-parter so it will be less rushed than the usual. The pseudoanime style is still there, though.

American Gangster, Edge Of Darkness, Unstoppable, Se7en. All from my local CEX, between a quid and £2.50. Only bought Se7en again because I haven't seen it for years, and I rate it as Fincher's best work.

I have year one and love it, I always think of it more as Gordon: year one (with special guest star batman) but then I kinda like the stylistic choice with the art too, but that's probably what watching years of anime has done to me. There's a 15min catwoman short on the disc too, a little something extra on the disc, I guess it beats animated trailers of previous or future releases.

DKR seems to take its cues from the comic design a little more, batman is HUGE, and everyone looks pretty much the way they should. though it has no real relevance, I'll probably rent DKR as I never really liked the comic, in fact when I watched TAS episodes legends of the dark knight my initial reaction to the DKR homage was 'this is nothing like batman' :p

I'd like to think If I like it I'll hold out for the inevitable double box set with both parts included.

Cool purchases.
This week I have ordered on Blu Ray under amazons 3 for £17... Artificial Intelligence,, Gladiator and ALmost Famous; the bootleg cut.
And just because I noticed it The Terminator. I'm still considering selling my copy of the Avengers on Blu Ray and buying the American BR but I'm not sure if it's region 3, or if I should live with the Censored agent coulson scene. That said I'd really like the commentary and I guess there#s a slight chance the US dvd has more deleted scenes than the 15 mins worth that were included in the UK copy.

According to Blu-Ray.com's review the US Blu-Ray only has 15 minutes worth of deleted scenes. Not sure what you're talking about it possibly being region 3 because North America is region 1 country. Region 3 covers parts of Asia.

Was at my favorite used DVD store today and picked up the "Nightmare on Elm Street Encyclopedia" Bonus Disc from the old DVD box set that I never had. Really awesome old school navigation with sweet interactive menus. Got it for $2.

Rock Of Ages (Blu-Ray Combo Pack)

This is weird. My dad bought the DVD on Tuesday, the day it came out, and I borrowed his copy and watched it right away. On the DVD there's a featurette where they talk to Def Leppard on the red carpet at the movie's premiere and then they show the 2 song concert they put on there. This featurette is not included on the Blu-Ray. This is weird. It's the first time I've seen something that was included on the DVD but not the Blu-Ray. Then to add to the strangeness the DVD that's included in the Blu-Ray combo pack is bare bones. No extras at all to choose from. There's a digital copy of course, but the extras that were included on the standalone DVD are not included on this one. I don't care about the other extras because they're included on the Blu-Ray but I would have liked to have that Def Leppard featurette/concert.

Bought that box set 8 years ago. Haven't watched the Encyclopedia disc in years, but as I recall it was a bitch to navigate.

Casino Royale on dvd for £2. Funny thing is, it was in HMVs swap shop thing (second hand dvds), but the discs were mint. Me thinks old unsold stock. Still, I'm not complaining.
