Question about weird Game of Thrones Blu-ray cheap at Walmart

Today, I saw season 1 of "Game of Thrones" on Blu-ray at Walmart for $19.74. I looked on the back of it and noticed something weird. While there's a small note that special features are not rated, there's no actual list of special features. The box looks similar to the one on Amazon, but, where the special features would be listed, it simply says seasons 2, 3, and 4 are also available. Also, there's a weird foreign-looking "16" rating. I've never seen the series but have wanted to, and this seems like a great way to try it out, but I decided against buying it until I could determine that all of the special features are included, and it's playable on North American Blu-ray players. Anyone know anything about this?

I would say it's Canadian stock and wally marts is probally having a sale on them. I haven't heard anything about a bare bones relase of Season 1 so I think your safe to get it. I have the entire series and trust me it is awesome and worth the $19.74

It's not Canadian. That foreign looking 16 rating is in a light blue rectangle, right? I see that rating on a lot of unofficial live concert DVD's, mostly in the metal genre. If I'm not mistaken that's actually a Nordic rating. Either way I'd stay away from that release because, like those music DVD's, it's most likely a bootleg.

You could always return it if there's issues with it? I mean Walmart doesn't sell bootlegs does it?

Mark, go ahead and buy it. It probably has the special features, and if it doesn't it's no big deal, they wouldn't have changed your life anyhow.

Concur. It's also on Amazon for 19.99 and Best Buy will price match that.

I went in early before work today and bought it, but I haven't opened it yet (it cost me $18.84 total after my discount and tax).

I scanned the front and back:

I used to care a lot about extras. These days, I barely have time to watch the feature.

I've seen them sell bootleg concerts on DVD. I've also seen the same ones at places like Best Buy, Future Shop, and HMV. I stopped by Wal-Mart earlier today and saw the release you were talking about. The rating rectangle that I was thinking of is not the same that's on this Game Of Thrones one. The one I'm talking about is on the front cover and is pretty big. The one on this GOT release, however, is small and on the back. It's also Quebec's rating system. Don't know why they'd be selling a Canadian release in the States though.

I popped in the first disc earlier today. The bonus features are present. It's not a bare-bones release. So, for $19.74, it's WELL worth the money.

Interesting about Quebec's rating system being different than Canada's.

Also, I have seen other Canadian releases for sale here, so it's not that unusual.

Each province has their own ratings system actually. Quebec's though seems to be the laxest. I've seen movies that were rated R in the US and 18A in Ontario* be rated 13+ in Quebec.

*The Canadian 18A rating is equivalent to the US R rating. The Canadian R rating is equivalent to the US NC-17 rating. The 18A rating didn't come into existence until 2003.

Interesting. And yet this somehow makes it more puzzling to me that hentai titles are apparently banned in Canada (or so I've read; and I'm checked Amazon.ca, and every hentai title is listed as an import).

That is weird if it's true. I don't know why hentai would be banned here when regular porn isn't. I know I've seen some hentai DVD's at a comic book shop downtown, but that was over a decade ago. They were at a different location at the time and had a whole room just for DVD's. Now they've only got a small section on one wall. If hentai's are banned though, wouldn't it be illegal to import?
