I've put this under Movies instead of Music because (to me) it does relate more to movies.
Here are some of my favourite soundtracks, in alphabetical order by composer:
And finally, composers that (I think) are overrated and overused:
Ramin Djawadi and Tyler Bates
While I also recognize the beauty of Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit soundtracks, and other works, I don't really feel that any of them stand out (for me personally). Although I have seen a lot of the films he scored:
Scanners, Videodrome, The Fly, The Silence of the Lambs, Mrs Doubtfire, Philadelphia, Seven, Crash, Cop Land, eXistenZ, Analyze This, Dogma, High Fidelity, The Cell, The Lord of the Rings 1, Gangs of New York, Panic Room, Spider, The Lord of the Rings 2 & 3, The Aviator, A History of Violence, The Departed, Eastern Promises, Edge of Darkness, The Hobbit 1.
If I'm wrong, don't hesitate to point out great Shore soundtracks
I'd love to see other people's lists so I can check those out as well :-D
