this shit isn't FUNNY

Tagline: There are many games to be played. We have twelve hours. Let’s begin!

Original Movie Title: Funny Games
Original Release Date: 2007
Original Running Time: 111min

Fanedit Release Date: Mars 2013
Fanedit Running Time: 85min
Time Cut: 26min

Brief Synopsis:
Funny Games is an interesting movie and sometimes really good. But at times it just drags man, and it starts of slow, too slow. So what I tried to do was make this movie more entertaining (you shouldn’t forget the importance of entertainment)

Intention:
With this fanedit I tried to shorten the length of not-so-great things (parts that tend to drag) like right after the killers have left, when the boy escapes, the opening scene etc.

I want the viewer to be hooked from the second the movie starts and to accomplice this I had to restructure the movie so it's no longer in chronological order. I’m hoping this will make the movie feel “more fresh” and better/more awesome/entertaining (plus a lot of other bullshit I should type in order to market this sucker)

Editing Details:
New structure to the story (told of it’s now out chronological order)
Faster paced (with some scenes being cut entirely, ex. the remote control scene)

Cuts and Additions:
a little chopping here and there, worth mentioning is:
-listening to classic music
-people in boat
-inside Fred’s house
-hiding from car
-arriving at “the other side”

super long aftermath sequence have been trimmed down

and some other shit...

Release Info: NTSC DVD5, 5.1 Surround Sound, Interactive Menus, Scene Selection

Special thanks: Captain Khajiit

Never heard of the movie before. So the original isn't worth a look neg?

The original is long, drawn out, fourth-wall-breaking, torture porn. And the original original is not in English (if that matters at all). The American version is almost a shot-for-shot remake by the same director, IIRC.

I though the whole point of the movie was not to be entertaining and make the audience think about what it was they were watching?

So true but I guess I'm one of these "sick fucks" that tend to like some of the things that goes on in this movie, and the "boring parts that tend to drag on and on and on and on" just felt in the way of the otherwise entertaining stuff. To my hypocritical defense I named it this shit isn't FUNNY so there you go. Also want to point out that the "social commentary" is still here, I just cut out the so obvious "remote control scene" (some might say [the director I can guarantee you] I killed the whole point. me? I think the film now works on two levels; just entertainment or something more)

I think that the American version/remake (which this fanedit is made from) is far superior although it's almost the same (the acting is so much better IMO)

I think that's the scariest post I've ever read on this forum.

I did like the American version, although I hated the remote control bit.

Minor nitpick/pet peeve:

It bugs me when fanedit titles don't include the original movie name.

IMO steFANedit's title is awesome. Way cleverer than just putting Recut at the end of the movie's title. Wait.

For people who haven't seen Funny Games I just like to say that it isn't torture porn like Saw or Hostel, meaning blood and guts. In Funny Games Naomi Watts have to strip nacked and you don't see anything, people are getting killed and you don't see the murder(s) just the aftermath (body lying around)

The thing with Funny Games is that there aren't any pay off to anything, no real plot to speak of (and it basically goes nowhere) no point to the "torture/murders" since you don't get to see it.

To explain it a little better why I like this movie (and not making me sound like a psychopath) I like the characters interacting with one another, the killers are so polite in their words but so cold in their actions, and also they smile a lot (like almost burst out laughing [which they sometimes do] smiling) "he gets it, hahahah, that's awesome, really..."
and all this makes it almost like a dark comedy IMO. It's hard to explain but it just really entertaining. Take for example when "Paul" asks about the golf ball "...but why do I have it in my pocket?"
and "Peter" answers, with a really big smile, "because you didn't hit it."
"Correct. And why didn't I hit it?"
"Because something stopped you."
and it's so funny....

Ha.

Agree that it's clever. I just hate trying to figure out what I'm looking at when reading the forum. As I said, it's a minor nitpick, nothing more.

In the past I have always been torn about creative names versus easy search ability. I guess now with fancy IFDB it is less of an issue.

I guess I would have called it Funny Games: This Shit Ain't Funny. But This Edit Ain't Mine.

S

steFANedit

the title is sort of a joke, this shit isn't FUNNY
GAMES
also about the comment the movies makes: this is sick, this shit isn't funny, blablabla
and it (hopefully) made you click on the thread to check out the fanedit
gotcha ;-) ...again

I did the same thing with my fanedit for Diary of the dead, I called it off the dead
Tools (a fanedit of The Toolbox Murders, old and new version)
or more obvious ones; Rob Zombie's Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009) The Myers Family
the Swedish movies about Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist (the girl with the dragon tattoo etc.) Lisbeth Salander

I still don't understand the Off The Dead title. "Off" as in "kill"?
