My kids have some newer Zelda game on their Switch but never play it. All they play is Minecraft and Animal Crossing. And since they have computers because of distance learning they have become obsessed with Roblox. I admit I never got into video games. My generation was the original Atari, but more often than not we just played the arcade games at the local pizza place.

I don't know why you quoted me, but your kids sound a lot younger than me too. The Zelda on the Switch is probably Breath of the Wild. I've spent some time with pretty much every game console generation, and I have an Atari. My favorite games on it are Asteroids, Pitfall, and Berzerk, but I've played most of the big ones.

I quoted you because I wasn’t sure if the Zelda game you have on your favorite games list is the one my kids (8) don’t seem to get into it.

My Favorites are Blood (1997), Fallout new vegas, Half life 1 to Episode 2 and Postal 2

I forgot to mention Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II with the Rise of the Witch King expansion.

Rise of Nations
I didn't know anyone else played this game! I spent months of in-game time playing this game as a kid, and still pick it up every once an a while.

Also, I'm gonna throw out a hot take, I loved Brink.

I remember spending lots of time playing these two games.

Ravenloft: Stone Prophet

The Journeyman Project 2: Buried in Time

Since I'm in a Dune revival mood as of late.. Cryo games made a PC Dune game back in the mid-90s that was pretty damn fun. Loosely based on the book and Lynch film, I remember playing that for hours and hours.. when I really should have been studying.

My current top 5, I think:

1. NieR:Automata
2. Metal Gear Solid 3
3. The Last of Us (both of them)
4. Final Fantasy IX
5. Mass Effect (primarily the first one, but the trilogy in general too)

I am addicted to car soccer right now. If you want to play Rocket League together let me know, it's free.

Okay, so more to the point of the thread, active games.. I'm not an avid gamer, but there are some games I absolutely love playing, and sometimes I get to play with my teenage sons, which is a wonderful time and are already great memories (I'll take whatever quality time with my kids I can get at this age). They're not the coolest or most popular but if I'm playing a video game right now, it's one of these 5

1. Sea of Thieves
2. Forza Horizon 5
3. War Thunder
4. EA's Battlefront 2
5. MCC

If we are talking active games, then I’m gonna have to agree with you on MCC. Halo is a big part of my videogame life. I grew up on it, on watching my brother have LAN parties during the days of Halo 3, playing on our own custom forge worlds in halo reach with both my brothers. So MCC is a great collection and 343 have really brought themselves up after Halo 4 and 5. And Halo Infinite is a ton of fun, and while it’s not perfect, it’s the best game 343 has made and really brings a lot of core halo elements back to the forefront, such as sandbox, equal starting, incredibly customization, and it’s free. My only worry is that they won’t release an anti cheat to stop hackers. That’s what happened with Call of Duty’s last three titles. Other ongoing games I love include Minecraft, which is getting 1.18 this month and looks fantastic! I also enjoyed Destiny 2, but I fell off of that because it got very stale and Bungie’s idea of “content” is grinding the same patrols and missions a million times for one cool item, and it’s like $60 for every expansion every year, so I dropped that game. Battlefront 2 is fun, and I do hope for a battlefront 3 after 2 improved itself so much from launch.

Grew up on Halo.. thanks for making me feel as old as I am. 😂

I'm console only so never any mod maps etc, and I don't play nearly as much as I used to, and I've always been more about the campaign than the pvp elements, but I think that has to do more with me sucking. My youngest is playing the new Infinite pvp and agrees that it's a lot of fun, but he is not pleased with the microtransactions and challenge systems.

We also love Destiny and loved Destiny 2, but the direction Bungie has taken it.. just lost interest.. taking away worlds, sunsetting/nerfing weapons, they took a fantastic game and rather than build a proper Destiny 3 they try to keep stretching more content in 2 by taking away content and replacing it.. it's really killed the game for us.

Battlefront 2 is really funny for me because I absolutely detested it upon release and for the first few years.. it wasn't until the created the mode where you take on nothing but AI, that turned it around from a game I literally never played to one where I played obsessively for ages.

Forge has been on console in almost every halo game (because originally all were only on Xbox anyway) so it wasn’t modding, but it was just using Forge mode. Mainly in Halo Reach, as that is the one I mainly played as a kid. But campaigns are way awesome in Halo. Halo Reach is one of my favorite stories in video games anyway. But the multiplayer is fun, but it definitely can be hard because of the sandbox elements. Forces you to change up your gameplay and adapt. It’s not about meta weapons like Call of Duty and other shooters of that ilk. I do agree on the microtransactions. I find it annoying that a lot of customization is behind that, but I am glad it’s only cosmetics and not any pay to win stuff like other games fell into.

Yeah, Bungie really shot themselves in the foot with Destiny 2 after Forsaken. I loved that expansion, played the hell out of it. Then after that lost interest because they started taking away stuff and doing the sun setting shit and made it over complicated and too grindy. Not enough actual unique content, just “do this patrol 10 times, then another one 15, then do 10 of the same raid/mission to get this exotic”. Boring..

Yeah, battlefront 2 was so bad at launch. Ridiculously pay to win EA garbage. Then they changed all that, introduced some new modes, brought back some classics from the OG games, and made it a bunch of fun.
