Upon a quick perusal, it looks like a pretty good list to me. I’d guess I own well more than half of the albums. And my collection also ends around 2010. 😜

Personally I think this challenge wont even be hard to complete as each of these albums are critically aclaimed and very fun :)

It definitely has its leanings. The jazz—and really everything before the late 60s—is lacking and pretty boring in my opinion. It definitely leans towards the commercially successful. And there’s plenty of great stuff tjat was commercially successful. But there are omissions from bands that are well represented on the list that I find baffling if not simply because they didn’t chart well; albums that in retrospect are considered classics. But, as I said, it seems to be a pretty good list and no list like this is going to be perfect for any one person beyond the person creating it.

I was definitely shocked to see In It For The Money by Supergrass appear on the list as I thought originally it didn't do to well.

Yeah but I think that’s because of the author’s leanings. Lots of contemporaries of Supergrass on there. I know they are way more well known in the UK but I was pleasantly surprised to see so many Super Furry Animals albums for example.

Was recently told to listen to these by my mom, annoys me how I have to listen to like 600 before I can :(

Listen to them in any order you want. I’d recommend skipping around actually. Do some research and if you like Supergrass, see what they cite as influences and see if there’s albums on the list. Bounce around according to what moves you.

I was originally gonna just listen that way however I feel like it would be cool to hear how everything improved or maybe got worse over time.

Ha. I think there’s some historical perspective to be found going chronologically but better/worse is probably not going to be more than a reflection of your tastes. I’m not sure how old you are, but I’m just jealous of you having instant access to all this music. The reason I have over 4K albums (according to iTunes) is because as a kid in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, I had to buy every album. But the good thing was, because I had to buy them, I wore them out.

I actually know what you mean, I'm only 14 (nearly 15) but I really wished I lived back in the 90s most of the time, as every album someone got was supposed to be a massive deal. also adding the fact music got a bit crap after around 2010. Streaming platforms ruin the fun in a sort of way for me anyway.

It’s amazing that you’re interested in all this music. Take your time. Don’t think of it as a checklist. When you really love an album, spend some time with it. It’s not a contest; it’s about (at least for me) finding music that moves you. When I was your age I was just starting to be able to buy albums. Prior to that I would sit listening the radio with a blank cassette waiting for the radio to play a song I liked and quickly hit record. You’ve got tons of options but don’t let that cause you to not spend time with the stuff you really love. Good luck to you. I hope your next 35 years of music are as enriching as mine have been.

1. Frank Sinatra – In The Wee Small Hours (1955)

Wee_small_hours_album_cover_high_definition.jpg

This album is the first off of this 1047 album challenge
It's undeniable Frank Sinatra has a brilliant voice, however I wouldn't say that it is really saving of this album, realisticly the instrumentals are quite bland and very repetitive. For the time it came out, its undeniable this is ground-breaking, but it really doesn't live up to today's standards.
However I must add i do enjoy the second half of this album a lot more.

Fav Tracks: I'll Be Around, In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning, It Never entered my Mind.
Least Fav Track: Deep In A Dream

Overrall Rating: 5.5/10

This will be pretty hard and it will probably take me at least a year or two or four or five or ten, however I will complete it :) Feel free to join in :)
If we average each album out to 35 minutes long, that's 35min x 1047 = 36,645min / 60min = 610.75hours / 24hours = 25.45 days worth of time to complete this challenge. 🤓

Let me geek out too. I think 35 minutes is a way too short to put as an average, even if you consider every album to be a single record. I’d say 45 minutes is a better estimate, again discounting double albums. So let’s call it 33 days. Assuming, you know, sleep and other responsibilities, let’s say he spends five hours per day listening and reviewing albums. I’d say it’s theoretically possible to tackle the list in six months. But most likely, I’d say it’s a year or two project with the utmost dedication. 😜

Will still end up completing it before Frink completes his Star Wars edit.

2. Duke Ellington -Ellington at Newport (1956)

EllingtonAtNewport.jpg

For it being a 2 hour long album it really doesn't have anything special in my opinion, maybe because this isn't my music taste but I just found myself ignoring it at points, I was bored out of my mind while listening to this I couldn't even finish the 2nd disk the whole way through. While sometimes instrumentally it sounds interestingly it drags on for way to long.

Fav Tracks: Take The *A* Train
Least Fav Track:. PT.1- Festival Junction

Will I return to this album?: No
