This is an old educational series that my class watched sometime in elementary school. I'm not sure exactly when I saw it, but it was sometime from third to fifth grades (1986-1989). The series is obviously from the 1980s, but I'm not sure of the exact year (the copyright notice doesn't list one). Judging by the "new" arcade game in episode 2, it might be from 1980 (but probably later).

This twelve-episode series (of roughly 14 or 15 minutes each) is about a boy, Norbert, that is contacted by the aging Storylord (um, basically, a wizard of reading), Lexor, and made an apprentice Storylord (henceforth known as Norbert the Ascendant). Norbert has to save the world of Mojuste from the evil Storylord, Thorzuul, on an episodic basis (Thorzuul threatens to turn someone to stone unless s/he can solve a riddle within 24 hours). Norbert invariably helps Thorzuul's target by applying a lesson that he'd learned in Mrs. Framish's class. Norbert's sister Mandy, Thorzuul's driver Milkbreath, and two of Norbert's classmates (Jason and Angie) complete the regular cast.

I loved watching this series was I was little, and I used to pretend I was a Storylord after school. I was pleasantly surprised to find the entire series on YouTube recently.

Keep in mind that this is a very leisurely paced series. Characters often repeat information multiple times, and we see Mrs. Framish write out instructions on the chalk board in full. Calm piano music plays during the Mojuste scenes. This series would be right at home on PBS alongside "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" and "Reading Rainbow".
